Trailer Hitch Installation - 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport - Video

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Today on this 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport we will be installing Curt hitch part number 13223. We are underneath the vehicle and the first thing we have done is to go ahead and lower down the spare tire to give us some extra working room. Starting over here on the driver side frame rail, looking towards the end, you can see we have an existing tow hook here. And if you do have the existing tow hook, you want to go ahead and bring that down. There are two bolts holding it into position here. There are nuts at the top of the frame as well that these bolts are attached to, so you will need to put a wrench on those. The same thing goes for the passenger side as well. With the tow hook removed, the two holes that are existing here are going to provide our front and rear attaching points for the hitch. But, you can see here in the middle, there is an existing weld nut as well. And that is going to provide our middle attaching point. And that is going to be the same on both the driver and passenger sides. 0:54 more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor

Today we are going to be installing part number 75163 by Draw-Tite on a 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor. We are underneath the vehicle now, and we are looking at the drivers side frame rail over here. The mounting location for the hitch on the drivers side is going to be the two weld nuts here at the base of the frame and then the two weld nuts here on the side of the frame, as well. On models that have seen at least one winter, a lot of times there is some corrosion built up in these weld nuts. So it is a good idea to go ahead and lubricate those first with a spray lubricant like WD-40 to kind of loosen up the rust and make it a little easier to get the bolts in there. So I am going to go ahead and do that on both sides of the vehicle. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Mitsubishi Endeavor

Today on this 2007 Mitsubishi Endeavor we are going to install part number 75519 from Draw-Tite and this also applies to Hidden Hitch part number 87428. The first step involved is we are going to go ahead and lower our exhaust here. We are going to remove it from the rubber exhaust hanger from the frame. Now, what we are going to do to remove the rubber hanger is we are going to spray the top hanger with some lubricant to help move it off. And you will also see that there is a bolt on the bottom half too. You can try to back that off. But, usually on older vehicles and bolts in this situation by the exhaust, they tend to rust together pretty easily and kind of break easily. You can try but be careful with it. To make things a little simpler and not have to worry about breaking stuff, we are just going to use the top hanger and remove it from there. 0:42 more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Today we are going to install part number 70534 from Hidden Hitch, and we are going to install this on a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport. Before we begin our install, it is a good idea to take down the spare tire to give us more working room and plus you can see what is going on a little bit easier, too. First off, we will show you where the hitch mounts onto the frame. It is going to mount onto the bottom of the frame where this tow hook is. That tow hook is going to have to come off. It also is going to attach to the side of the frame using these two bolt holes on the drivers side. This has got to go, and we will be using these two existing holes, too. Next, we will clean out our threaded holes in the frame. We are just using a battery terminal brush, and we are just going to run it in the threads to help clean it out. Keep running the brush in and out and spraying it until you get it good and clean, and then take your bolt and run it in a few threads at a time until you get it to go all the way through the nut. You are going to have to do this for all four bolts. All right, now we will start taking down these tie-down hooks. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Today we are going to install part number 13223 from Curt, and we are going to install this on a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport. We will show you where the hitch mounts up on the frame. It reuses these existing holes where these bolts are right now. This tie-down hook actually gets taken off the vehicle and left off, and it is going to be the same thing on the passengers side, where this tie-down loop will get taken off as well. And these pieces will stay off the vehicle. Also, we did take down the spare tire, just to get a little easier working room, and the spare tire will go back up in its place when we are done. All right, when you take this down, there is a threaded fitting here which the hitch uses, too. We are going to take some time here and actually clean that out really good. Spray it down with some lubricant and run the bolt in and out. Sometimes, in an aged vehicle, you may have to run a tap through it to clean it out. more
