Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Honda Civic

Today on this 2009 Honda Civic we will be installing Draw-Tite hitch part number 24763. This installation will also apply for the Hidden Hitch part number 60822. We are underneath the vehicle and we are actually looking at the passenger side frame rail. We need to do a couple of things in preparation before we can actually get started pointing out the mounting holes for the trailer hitch. As you can see we have got our exhaust here on the passenger side. We need to go ahead and lower it down to get it out of the way. To do that we are going to remove it off of its rubber hanger here using just a spray lubricant like a WD-40. Before we can remove the heat shield, we need to actually remove this plastic shroud from underneath here. Because the fourth bolt for the heat shield is actually covered by our shroud. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Honda Odyssey

Today we are going to be installing Hidden Hitch part number 87479 on a 2009 Honda Odyssey. This application will also apply for Draw-Tite hitch part number 75270. OK, we are underneath the vehicle and we are looking at the passengers side frame rail. You can see the exhaust is in the way over here. So the first thing we want to do is to go ahead and take the exhaust off of its rear-most hanger right here. To do that, we just take a spray lubricant, like a WD-40, spray the stud down really well. And with the exhaust off its hanger, I can kind of pull it away here. And with the exhaust off its hanger, I can kind of pull it away here. And as you can see here at the bottom of the frame, we have got three existing weld nuts. We have got two here at the rear section, and then one more up at the forward side. When we look at the drivers side frame rail, you can see we are going to be using the same weld nuts as on the passengers side. That will be two at the rear, and one at the forward side. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Honda Fit

Today we are going to install part number 24826 from Draw-Tite, and we are going to install this on a 2009 Honda Fit. The hitch gets installed using this hole in the frame and this hole in the frame right here. And also what is going to happen is we are going to have to trim this plastic piece off so the hitch will fit flush against the frame of the vehicle. OK, it is going to be the same thing on this side however, the hitch is going to wrap around the exhaust and use the same existing holes that are in the frame as was on the drivers side. Optionally, you can disconnect the exhaust and move it out of the way so it will be a little easier to get ahold of the hardware going into the vehicle. And that is what we are going to do here. So we will disconnect the two rubber hangers here, and hopefully that will give us enough wiggle room to push it off to the side. We actually put a safety strap on - we actually use a strap to hold it out of the way because there is plenty of room actually to move around now. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Honda CR-V

Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 24792 from Draw-Tite on a 2008 Honda CR-V. OK, we are underneath the vehicle and we are going to go ahead and point out the mounting locations for the trailer hitch. Over here on the drivers side frame rail you can see the 1/8-inch hole. We are going to be using the 7/16 bolt-and-block assembly to go up and through this position and we will pull it back down into place. You can see the hole is a little bit small for the block, so we will need to enlarge it just a little bit so that we can get the bolt-and-block assembly up into place. We do the same thing on the passengers side as well. But, as you can see, on the passengers side the exhaust is in the way. So the first thing we are going to need to do is to go ahead and lower the exhaust off of its hangers. We have got one here on the inboard side and then one here on the outboard side. For the center attaching point, you can see we have got a tow loop here. That will be the center attaching point for the trailer hitch. So the first thing we are going to do is go ahead and lower the exhaust and get it out of the way, and then we will enlarge the holes in the frame to accommodate the bolt-and-block assemblies. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Honda Odyssey

Today we are going to install part number V82400, from Valley, a Class III receiver hitch, and we are going to install this on a 2009 Honda Odyssey. First we will show you where the hitch installs, starting on the drivers side frame rail: this threaded hole here, this threaded hole, and this hole right here. We will pull our hardware from the inside out. Going to the passengers side, above the exhaust here, it is going to use this threaded hole, this threaded hole, and then that is all it is going to use on the passengers side. There is an extra hole on the frame of the hitch for manufacturing purposes, but it is not going to be used. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Honda Odyssey

Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 36417 from Draw-Tite on a 2008 Honda Odyssey. We are underneath the vehicle now and we are looking at the driver's side frame rail. As you can see here at the end, we have two existing weld nuts in the frame that we are going to be using as the two attaching points for the trailer hitch. And then over here on the passenger's side, we have the same two weld nuts that are also going to provide the attaching points. And you can see, we do have the exhaust in the way, so we are going to want to lower that down first. To do that, we are going to remove it off of the rubber hanger here at the rear position and then here at the more forward position, almost in the middle of the vehicle. more

Today we are going to install part number 87479 from Hidden Hitch, and we are going to install this on a 2005 Honda Odyssey. First we will show you where the hitch installs at. It is going to install in the existing weld nuts here, here, and back here. And also you can tell, it is kind of wet there, basically what we did was we cleaned out the bolt holes first, before we are even starting to install the hitch. Take a few minutes and go ahead and clean out those bolt threads. Basically, just spray them down with some WD-40, then use the bolt to start threading in and out just a little bit at a time. more

First I will show you where the hitch mounts up on the vehicle. It is going to mount up on this frame member here, it is going to mount to the tow hook, and it is also going to mount on the other side of the frame member above the exhaust. To begin our install, what we have to do is lower the exhaust, and we are going to have to take down the rubber hangers here and here. And we will just gently lower it down. That should give us enough room for working room. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Honda Accord

Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 24787 from Draw-Tite on a 2006 Honda Accord. This installation will also apply to Hidden Hitch part number 60953. We are underneath the vehicle. The first thing we want to do to gain access to the frame rail is to go ahead and lower the exhaust down from the passengers side frame rail. There are actually two hangers that we are going to need to remove to lower the exhaust down. The one here on the outboard side, about midway up the muffler here, that is going to need to be pried off. And I definitely recommend to spray it down with some form of spray lubricant, like a WD-40. It makes the removal a lot easier. And the second exhaust hanger that we are going to need to lower is a little bit forward here of the muffler, right dead center of the car. more

Today we are going to install part number V82110 from Valley, and we are going to install this Class III receiver hitch on a 2004 Honda Pilot. All right, let us go ahead and show you where the hitch attaches to the vehicle and give you a better idea of what is going on. The first attachment point is going to be on the bottom of the frame rail here. And this tow hook is going to have to be removed this will stay off once the hitch is in place. It is going to be the same thing on the other side. All right, and these two points right here are where the hitch will install. Now, on some older vehicles like this one here, it is a good idea to clean out these threads on these bolt holes. And the last point of attachment is going to be on the bumper itself. And it is located between the center of the bumper and the spare tire. There will be two threaded holes in the bumper going this way. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Honda Ridgeline

Today we are installing a hitch on a 2008 Honda Ridgeline hitch number 75280. We are going to start off showing you the holes where the hitch will mount up to. It is these three here and it is the same on the other side, plus being two more on the fascia. The first step to lowering the exhaust, sometimes it helps to spray some type of lubricant on the hanger itself so you can take off the rubber grommet easier. So after you do the first one, then you do the same to the back. In some cases, after you lower the exhaust, the heat shield that is around it may come down, as well, so you have more clearance and more access in getting to the bolts on the hitch install. In this case, the heat shield is flexible enough to just move it out of the way to get the hitch installed. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2005 Honda Pilot

Today we are installing part number 13328, a hitch made by Curt, and it will be going on a 2005 Honda Pilot. Okay, we are underneath the vehicle now. And the first thing you want to do is remove your spare tire, and get it out of the way. Locating the attachment points, right here on the back side of the bumper there are two weld nuts that attach to the flange on the hitch itself. And then we go over here to the drivers side of the frame rail, there is just a tow hook that needs to be removed. There are three bolts holding it on. And those three weld nuts in the frame will be the attachment points for the hitch, as well. And then on the passengers side frame rail, there is not actually a tie-down, there are just the existing weld nuts. On older vehicles, over time corrosion will build up into these weld nuts, so you want to go ahead and clean those out really well before you get started. You can use any kind of spray lubricant, like WD-40, and a wire brush to get the threads cleaned out. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid

Today we are going to install part number 24763 on our 2008 Honda Civic hybrid model. The hitch is going to install above the exhaust on this frame rail behind the heat shield right here. It wraps all the way around the muffler. It is also going to attach to the tow hook right here. Also on the frame rail over here just on this side of the shroud. The first step is to remove the exhaust and also, to do that, we need to remove the rubber isolator from the exhaust muffler. And that will give us some wiggle room. Next we have to unbolt this heat shield right here. Alright next what needs to happen is that this rivet right here has to be removed. We will put it back up when we are done. What we are going to do now is go ahead and hang the hitch. We are going to start off at the tow loop. As you can see, we have the U-bolt hanging down from it. It might be a good idea to have an extra set of hands to work around the muffler. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Honda Odyssey

First thing well do is lower the exhaust to give us a little more working room. As you can see we use a tie down to pull the exhaust out of the way even more so. That is totally optional it just depends on your circumstances. What were going to do is clean out the bolt holes on our frame. Sometimes you wont have to do this, particularly if the vehicle is brand new. Some older vehicles, especially fewer years down the line, you run into problems with rust and corrosion getting in the threads. Were going to use a wire brush that comes off a battery terminal cleaner and were going to spray it down with WD-40 and work out the rust. Its not so bad in this model but well go through the steps anyway so its easy to see what you need to do before you put the hitch on if you have an older vehicle. The next step would be to use the actual bolt and run it in there a few times in and out to clean it out just to make sure. more

The first thing we need to do is remove the rubber hangers holding up the exhaust. Theres one here in the center of the vehicle and theres a secondary hanger on the outside of the frame and you need to remove that one as well. This will allow the exhaust to come down so you can access this hole here. The next step is to install the bolts into the frame through the existing hole. You want to use the bolt leader thats provided, wrapping the the threads around the bolt. You slide the block onto it as well and feed it up into the hole, and pull the bolt back down through. That locks it into position. Now well repeat that and do the same thing on the other side. After we get the bolts into the frame well mount the hitch into position. After we get the two mounting frame bolts into place we want to install the mounting bolt into the tow hook. more

The other thing is we want to clean out any of the bolt holes that are exposed to the elements. The hitch attaches on this side here and also attaches on the far side of the muffler on the passenger side. On these exposed bolt holes here the ones that we will need to use we will have to clean out and we will take care of that next. We will begin by spraying down the holes with some WD40 or any kind of cleaner. This ensures that all of the dirt gets out of there before you try and install the hitch. more
