Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Dodge Charger

Today on this 2006 Dodge Charger we are going to install part number 90339 from Hidden Hitch. This also applies to part number 36325 from Draw-Tite. To begin our install we need to lower the exhaust so we have access to the frame. First thing we are going to to is lubricate the rubber hangers here, that way it makes it a lot easier to pull off the metal hangers themselves. Pull it down just a little bit to allow the lubricant to get in. :24 more

Today on this 2006 Dodge Charger we will be installing Curt hitch part number 13465. We are underneath the vehicle and before we get started we need to go ahead and lower the exhaust off of both frame rails so that we can gain access to the existing weld nuts in the frame. There are two hangers per side that we are going to remove the exhaust off of. One here and one here on the driver side and then one here and here on the passenger side. And on some models it may be necessary to go ahead and remove the third hanger as well to gain just a little bit more room. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Dodge Caliber

Today on this 2009 Dodge Caliber we will be installing Hidden Hitch part number 60832. This installation will also apply for Draw-Tite part number 24769. We are underneath the vehicle and we are actually looking at the driver side frame rail. You can see here on the side of the frame we have got two existing holes. Those are going to provide our attaching points on both sides of the vehicle here. What we are going to be using are the long 5/ 8 bolts that are provided with our installation kit. There is actually a cushioning inside of these holes here that will allow us to slide these bolts all the way through. So what we are going to do is just slide those in and what we want to do is leave them flush with the frame rail here because the hitch is actually going to slide up on the inboard side here. more

Okay we will go ahead and first show you where the hitch mounts up onto the vehicle. It is going to mount up onto the frame itself in two different places. It is going to mount on the bottom of the frame using this bolt hole here and the hole where this existing bolt is. And the existing bolt is going to be removed and replaced by the hitch hardware. Also it is going to mount up onto the inside of the frame where another existing factory bolt is going to be replaced by the hitch hardware also. All right, we will go ahead and take this bottom bolt out here. more

Today on this 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Full Size Van we are going to install part number V81970 from Valley. Next we will go ahead and show you where the hitch mounts up on the van. And it is kind of easy on this one ton, so I will have plenty of room to work in. We are looking at the drivers-side frame rail and we are going to use this hole here, here, and here. And on the passenger side there are just going to be two holes used. This on and this one. What we are going to do is install our hardware using this access hole here. The kit comes with a wire pull, what we are going to do is take our wire, put it through the hole we are going to use and out the access hole. We will slide our block on first and then thread on the bolt, we can go ahead and push that in actually. And just pull it on through. And it will be the same thing on both sides. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Today on this 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan we will be installing hitch part number 36455 from Draw-Tite. This hitch application also applies to Hidden Hitch part number 90169. The first thing you want to do is get underneath the vehicle and lower the exhaust off its rear most hanger here on the passenger side. To remove it off of its hanger you want to just spray the stud here down with a spray lubricant like a WD-40. And then we can just use a crowbar and kind of get behind there to pry it off. And with the exhaust off of its hanger you can kind of pull it out of the way here. With the exhaust pulled out of the way you can see we have two existing bolts here in the frame. Those are going to provide our two attaching points for our trailer hitch on both sides of the vehicle. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan

Today we are going to be installing Hidden Hitch part number 87717 on a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. Okay, the first thing we want to do in preparation for installing the hitch is to remove the spare tire. Taking a look at the drivers side frame rail, you can see we have got two existing weld nuts here at the bottom of the frame. And we have also got a hole here that is a little bit more forward. We are going to be removing this bolt from both the drivers and passengers side frame rails. That is going to provide our rear-most attaching point. This oblong hole here in the middle, we are going to be ping this carriage bolt and block from inside the frame down through, and that will provide our middle attaching point. And then we will be doing the same thing for the forward attaching point. And that is going to be the same on both sides of the vehicle. To get the carriage-bolt-and-block assemblies inside the frame, we are going to be using the fish wires that are provided in the installation kit. more

Today we are going to install part number 90339 from Hidden Hitch, and we are going to install this on a 2008 Dodge Charger. The first step, we will undo this hanger here and unbolt the other hangers, and then we will lower the exhaust down. Now, the exhaust is sitting by itself right here. However, if you needed to get a little bit more room in there, what you can do is actually lower the exhaust a little bit more. We have to get around this edge here. You have just got to be careful when you pull around here that you do not scratch it up. The drivers side gives you a little bit more room right off the bat. more

Today we are going to install part number 75662 from Draw-Tite, and we are going to install this on a 2006 Dodge Ram full-size pickup. First we will show you where the hitch mounts onto the vehicle. It does mount onto the crossbar that is underneath the bumper here basically, like half a hitch is already there. It also is going to tie into the bumper itself. And what is going to happen is this cover for the center ball hole here is going to be actually used by the hitch. What we are going to do is pop this cover off, and we are going to a bolt that goes through here down to the hitch. Let us go ahead and take a look at the bottom of the bumper and give you a better idea of how the hitch is going to mount up. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2000 Dodge Dakota

All right, today we are going to install part number 87554 from Hidden Hitch, and we are going to install this Class III receiver hitch on a 2000 Dodge Dakota. We are going to show you where the hitch mounts up first. Basically, it is going to mount in these two existing holes in the frame, and also this bolt right here. This bolt will be taken out and replaced. However, sometimes what is going to happen is this little plate right here when you do the assembly will actually get caught between this plate for these two bolts here. So it requires you take these two bolts loose and then spin this out so you can get the bolt out. You can see on the passengers side how it looks like that. All right, you can see how the strap on this bolt is caught underneath this strap connecting these two bolts here, so that will require you to loosen these two bolts - not remove them - just loosen them enough so you can get this strap up and out of the way. All right, when you have got that bolt out, let us go ahead and tighten these back up. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Dodge Stratus

Today we are going to be installing Draw-Tite hitch part number 36301 on a 2006 Dodge Stratus. Okay, we are underneath the vehicle now. As you can see here on the passenger's side of the vehicle, we have the exhaust, which is going to need to be lowered. That is the first thing that we are going to need to do. And again with the bolts removed off of the bracket, I am going to go ahead and remove the rubber hangers off there as well. Before I remove the front hanger, I went ahead and added a tow strap to support the exhaust, because once we remove this front hanger the exhaust is going to come down quite a bit, and we do not want it to completely fall because it could damage the exhaust. And you can see with the exhaust down now, we are going to need to remove this bolt and then remove as the two as well from the driver's side, and then we can go ahead and put our hitch up into position. more

And behind the spring shackle, it is going to use this bolt here, too. Again, we are going to reuse that bolt on the install. And it is going to be identical on both sides. Trailer Hitch Installation - 2000 Dodge Durango

Today we are going to be installing hitch part number V81600 on a 2000 Dodge Durango. The first thing you want to do is to go ahead and remove your spare tire. That will give you a lot more room to get the hitch up into place. We are underneath the vehicle now and we are going to go ahead and point out the mounting location for the trailer hitch. There are three attaching points on the passengers side and there are four on the drivers side. So the first thing we want to do is to go ahead and put all the hardware into place. It will consist of carriage bolts and blocks for most of the locations. On the mounting locations for the vertical tabs on each side there is actually a carriage slot built into the trailer hitch, so that we do not need a block in those locations - we only need a carriage bolt. For the two here on the drivers side I am actually going to use the fish wire that was provided in the installation kit. We are going to feed that up through the hole and then out through the larger hole here in the side of the frame. I am just going to wrap that around our carriage bolt and then pull that down into position. Then another carriage bolt and block here in the crossmember. And then we can go ahead and put the hitch up into position. more

The hitch bolts go onto the frame using existing fasteners and it is going to use these three on the frame right here. Those are bolts that actually hold the bumper bracket in place. And when you take those out, be careful you do not move the bumper around too much, because the holes will come out of alignment. And the same set of holes are going to be on the other side, on the passengers side, just above the muffler. All right, on the passengers side, the same three bolts are there. However, it is behind the muffler here. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Today we are going to install part number 13364 from Curt. We are going to install this on a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. We will go ahead and show you where the hitch mounts up onto the vehicle and give you an idea of what is going on. The hitch bolts up onto the frame right here: these one, two, three points. And the hitch is going to use the existing hardware, too. On the other side it is a little more different. We have got to take down the exhaust to give us some working room, get those bolts out, and then slide the hitch in there, of course. One thing to know is, when you undo these bolts for the bumper brackets it will tilt up. If you are careful enough, they will stay in place, but they will just tilt up. So it is a good idea to do the rearmost bolts first, to get the hitch installed, and then snug them down where it brings the rest of the bracket inside the frame down level so you can actually thread the rest of the bolts in. more

What is going to happen is the hitch is going to attach to these bolts right here. These two will be removed and replaced. This one will stay in the original position. What we will do is take the nuts off all three bolts, leave this one still in there we will back it out just a little bit. We will put blocks on the bolts, and then the hitch will actually go on top of everything. It will be identical on both sides. This bolt connected on this side and the other side of the frame we will take these out and replace the bolts. We will take our hardware, fit a flat washer over it, and just reinstall. And then over the bolts we will install these blocks. And then repeat this same thing on the other side of the vehicle. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Dodge Charger RT

Today we are going to install part number 13465 from Curt on a 2007 Dodge Charger RT. The first thing we need to do is lower the exhaust. We have got two points we need to lower: one here, and one in the back. Now, we can simply unbolt those from the frame and it will come down. And we will do that on both sides. And also, for added safety, and to keep the stress down on the exhaust, we added this safety strap here. And one other point we need to disconnect will be right here, that is going to be right in front of the converter here. And basically we are going to just take this off and let the exhaust fall down as much as possible, limited by the strap, of course. And that will give us plenty of working room. Now we will take down this side of the exhaust. All right, and now we will do the passengers side. more

And it is also going to come to the end of the frame, to the last crossmember, and it is going to use this hole right here. And there will be a stiffener plate that is going to go inside of here, also. It is a little bit different on the other side. On the drivers side, you are going to use the same hole on the end of the frame, right here. Again, it will get a stiffener bracket, and then also one of the bolt holes back here in the back. Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Today we are going to install part number 82534 from Hidden Hitch. We are going to install this on a Dodge Ram 1500. First off, the hitch we are going to install on the frame and the side brackets. We are going to use this hole here, this one at the end of the frame, and this side bracket. It is going to be the same on both sides. And also, this install requires that the factory hitch not be installed on the vehicle. To begin our install, actually we are going to go ahead and put the hitch up against the frame. And there are two bolts that we are going to run into on the side brackets that hang down vertically. We are going to use those to put the hitch into position, and then we are going to wire the bolts to the frame. To show you an example here, some models have a significant gap between the hitch frame and the bracket coming down. It will be pretty similar on both sides if yours is off. It does come with these optional spacers right here to put in between the frame. They will go right here, and then that will take up some of the extra slack in there. When you tighten down the hitch, the bracket and the hitch will conform to take up the necessary space. We will go ahead and install these spacers on this particular hitch. more

The hitch will sit on top of this plate and get bolted back into place, and then it also will attach to one of these holes back behind the energy absorber, in the frame here. And we do the same thing on both sides. However, we will have to modify the exhaust lower, before we are all said and done, on the drivers side. And this is the exhaust bracket that we will have to lower and modify, but for now we will just go ahead and unbolt it into the frame plate here. And we will leave that there, that just like that, for now. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2002 Dodge Dakota

Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 87554 on a 2002 Dodge Dakota. Alright, the first thing we want to do is go ahead and lower the spare tire and remove it and get it out of the way. Looking under the vehicle now, at the frame rails, the attaching points for the hitch are going to be here at the bottom of the frame. This existing hole, as well as this one here. There is a vertical attaching point as well, which is going to be where this bolt is here. So we need to actually remove the nut from the outboard side and pull this piece off. As you can see, there is an extra flange here that kind of holds the bolt in place while you are putting the nut on. If that happens to be pinched in between this particular set of bolts here, you might need to loosen these to allow this to be removed. So you will want to go ahead and remove this bolt and that assembly from both sides of the frame. As you can see I had to loosen these bolts here to get this top bolt out, the flange. You will want to make sure that you re tighten these as soon as you are able to get the top bolt out. Now that we have the bolt removed from the side of the frame, we will go ahead and put the hitch up into position. more

We are underneath the vehicle now and I am going to go ahead and point out the attaching points that we are going to use for the hitch. As you can see there are 2 existing bolts in the bottom of the frame as well as a center hole here as well. The hitch is going to utilize this bolt here, as well as this hole here. On 2001 and newer models, we have a hole that is going to be existing here as well that the hitch is going to utilize. On this particular model, they do not have the hole already in the frame so we are going to have to go ahead and drill that out. Well need to remove the two rearmost ones while the third stays in place as were going to use it. Step one is to remove all the nuts from the three bolts. As you can see we removed the two nuts on the rearmost bolts and left the nut on the third, just finger tight it so the bolt cant come through. Now we can remove the two rearmost bolts, which you want to do on both sides. Once weve removed the bolts from the frame we want to replace them with the bolts provided with the hitch kit.
