Trailer Hitch Installation - 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan - Video

Today on this 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan we are going to install part number 87451 from Hidden Hitch. This will also apply to part number 75579 from Draw-Tite. The first thing we need to do is lower the exhaust over on the passenger side and there are two hangers that we need to undo. There is one right here behind the muffler and there is one farther up past the axle by the main muffler. All you have got to do is unbolt right here. Now you can see the two attaching points in the passenger side here. We are going to use this bolt and this bolt right next to this line. On the driver side is going to use all three bolts shown here. Lets start removing the bolts. We will start with the bolts closest to the bumper and work our way back. 00:52 more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan - Video

Today on a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan we are going to install part number 87451 from Hidden Hitch. This also applies to part number 75579 from Darw-Tite. The first step involved is to go ahead and lower the exhaust on the passenger side, just give us some more working room and access to the frame. Alright, this is one of the points where we will go ahead and unbolt the exhaust from the frame and lower it there. And then there is one farther back. These three bolts here, we need to remove those. And those are the bolts that actually hold the hitch in place and they will be reused. Trailer Hitch Installation - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan - Video

Today on this 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan we are going to install part number 87719, this will also apply to Draw-Tite part number 75305. The hitch is going to use these two bolts as attaching points here and those will get reused and also this bolt back here, that gets taken out and that one will be reused. This will be identical on both sides of the vehicle. Next we can start installing the hitch. What is going to happen is that one arm of the hitch is going to have to start on top of the leaf spring and then we will rotate the hitch to where we get the other half of the hitch over the other spring and then bring it back parallel with the bumper and then bring it back. Trailer Hitch Installation - 2010 Dodge Journey - Video

Today on this 2010 Dodge Journey we are going to install part number 13335 from Curt. This first step involved in installing this hitch is we are going to have to lower the exhaust a little bit. There is four rubber hangers right behind the bumper that holds the mufflers up and there is two in front of the mufflers that need an additional clearance to take off the lower the mufflers even more. We will spray them down with some lubricant to make it a little bit easier to pull off. With the pry bar just try to get some leverage. And go to the other side and do those. We will go ahead and show you where the bolt holes are at in the frame. We will be using this one, this one, and this one right here. So now we are looking at the passenger side and the driver side is going to be identical. We will go ahead and start fish wiring our hardware into the frame of the vehicle. 00:44 more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Dodge Durango - Video

Today on an 2006 Dodge Durango we are going to install part number 75162 from Draw-Tite. The hitch mounts actually to the bumper structure underneath the bumper cover so what we are going to to do is loosen up the bumper cover to get access to the bumper structure itself. Now I will take a block of wood and we will just put up it in between the bumper structure and the fascia so we will have a little more working room and then we will start working on cutting out the Styrofoam. Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Dodge Caliber - Video

Today on this 2009 Dodge Caliber we will be installing Hidden Hitch part number 60832. This installation will also apply for Draw-Tite part number 24769. We are underneath the vehicle and we are actually looking at the driver side frame rail. You can see here on the side of the frame we have got two existing holes. Those are going to provide our attaching points on both sides of the vehicle here. What we are going to be using are the long 5/ 8 bolts that are provided with our installation kit. There is actually a cushioning inside of these holes here that will allow us to slide these bolts all the way through. So what we are going to do is just slide those in and what we want to do is leave them flush with the frame rail here because the hitch is actually going to slide up on the inboard side here. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan - Video

Today on this 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan we will be installing hitch part number 36455 from Draw-Tite. This hitch application also applies to Hidden Hitch part number 90169. The first thing you want to do is get underneath the vehicle and lower the exhaust off its rear most hanger here on the passenger side. To remove it off of its hanger you want to just spray the stud here down with a spray lubricant like a WD-40. And then we can just use a crowbar and kind of get behind there to pry it off. And with the exhaust off of its hanger you can kind of pull it out of the way here. With the exhaust pulled out of the way you can see we have two existing bolts here in the frame. Those are going to provide our two attaching points for our trailer hitch on both sides of the vehicle. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan - Video

Today we are going to be installing Hidden Hitch part number 87717 on a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. Okay, the first thing we want to do in preparation for installing the hitch is to remove the spare tire. Taking a look at the drivers side frame rail, you can see we have got two existing weld nuts here at the bottom of the frame. And we have also got a hole here that is a little bit more forward. We are going to be removing this bolt from both the drivers and passengers side frame rails. That is going to provide our rear-most attaching point. This oblong hole here in the middle, we are going to be ping this carriage bolt and block from inside the frame down through, and that will provide our middle attaching point. And then we will be doing the same thing for the forward attaching point. And that is going to be the same on both sides of the vehicle. To get the carriage-bolt-and-block assemblies inside the frame, we are going to be using the fish wires that are provided in the installation kit. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2000 Dodge Durango - Video

Today we are going to be installing hitch part number V81600 on a 2000 Dodge Durango. The first thing you want to do is to go ahead and remove your spare tire. That will give you a lot more room to get the hitch up into place. We are underneath the vehicle now and we are going to go ahead and point out the mounting location for the trailer hitch. There are three attaching points on the passengers side and there are four on the drivers side. So the first thing we want to do is to go ahead and put all the hardware into place. It will consist of carriage bolts and blocks for most of the locations. On the mounting locations for the vertical tabs on each side there is actually a carriage slot built into the trailer hitch, so that we do not need a block in those locations - we only need a carriage bolt. For the two here on the drivers side I am actually going to use the fish wire that was provided in the installation kit. We are going to feed that up through the hole and then out through the larger hole here in the side of the frame. I am just going to wrap that around our carriage bolt and then pull that down into position. Then another carriage bolt and block here in the crossmember. And then we can go ahead and put the hitch up into position. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan - Video

Today we are going to install part number 13364 from Curt. We are going to install this on a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. We will go ahead and show you where the hitch mounts up onto the vehicle and give you an idea of what is going on. The hitch bolts up onto the frame right here: these one, two, three points. And the hitch is going to use the existing hardware, too. On the other side it is a little more different. We have got to take down the exhaust to give us some working room, get those bolts out, and then slide the hitch in there, of course. One thing to know is, when you undo these bolts for the bumper brackets it will tilt up. If you are careful enough, they will stay in place, but they will just tilt up. So it is a good idea to do the rearmost bolts first, to get the hitch installed, and then snug them down where it brings the rest of the bracket inside the frame down level so you can actually thread the rest of the bolts in. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2002 Dodge Caravan Sport - Video

Today on Etrailer.com we are going to be working on this 2002 Dodge Caravan Sport. We are going to be installing Draw-Tite part number 24702. To begin our installation process we are going to remove these two rear bumper bolts located on the passenger side frame rail. We are also going to remove the two on the driver side frame rail as well. On this particular model it is a good idea to spray a spray lubricant like WD-40 on the back sides of these bolts you can gain access to the frame rail. Another note, whenever you are removing these bolts feel free to run these in and out a couple of times before fully taking those out and that will help prevent these bolts from busting off inside the frame rail. 00:45 more

The first thing we are going to do is we are going to need to remove the rear most bolts that are holding the bumper to the frame. It is probably going to be a little tight so you want to spray some lubricant on them. We are going to do that on the driver and passenger side of the vehicle. The next step after moving that bolt is we are going to take our hardware and fish wire them through into position. We are going to put one here and we are going to put one here. Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Dodge Journey - Video

Today on this 2009 Dodge Journey we are going to be installing Curt hitch part number 13335. First thing we are going to do before we start installing our trailer hitch is to go ahead and lower our exhaust down off the two rearmost hangers. On dual exhaust models you will need to do this on both sides. You can see there is one on the inboard side and one on the outboard side. To remove the hangers off the muffle we are going to use a spray lubricant, like a WD-40 and go ahead and spray the studs of the hanger down. Then we can take a pry bar, or a pair of pliers, and pry the rubber hanger off the stud. We want to repeat that for all four hangers. :41 more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 1987 Dodge Ram Pickup - Video

Today on this 1987 Dodge Ram Pickup we will be installing Curt hitch part number 14001. We are underneath the vehicle looking at the passenger side frame rail. We are going to go ahead and point out the mounting locations for the trailer hitch. The hitch is going to attach directly to the bottom of the frame here at this edge. Depending on your model year there may be existing holes here at the bottom of the frame that will align with the trailer hitch. We are going to be using the 1/ 2 hole that is a little bit more forward here on the frame. We are actually going to go ahead and align that to the middle attaching hole on the trailer hitch and then we will just go ahead and drill out the four other holes. So the first thing we want to do is go ahead and take one of the carriage bolts and blocks. Merge the two together and it from the top side here of the frame to where the threads will protruding down. 00:47 more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 - Video

Today on this 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup we will be installing the Valley hitch part number V82861. We are at the back of the vehicle, looking at the step bumper. The center most attachment point for our trailer hitch is actually going to be the opening for the hitch ball here on the bumper. The large 3/ 4 inch bolt along with a flat washer, and we are going to insert it down through the opening for the hitch ball. That is actually going to thread in to a weld nut that is built in to the trailer hitch for this attachment point. :30 more

Today we are going to install part number 75662 from Draw-Tite, and we are going to install this on a 2006 Dodge Ram full-size pickup. First we will show you where the hitch mounts onto the vehicle. It does mount onto the crossbar that is underneath the bumper here basically, like half a hitch is already there. It also is going to tie into the bumper itself. And what is going to happen is this cover for the center ball hole here is going to be actually used by the hitch. What we are going to do is pop this cover off, and we are going to a bolt that goes through here down to the hitch. Let us go ahead and take a look at the bottom of the bumper and give you a better idea of how the hitch is going to mount up. more

Today we are going to install part number 36320 from Draw-Tite, and we are going to install this Class II receiver hitch on our 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan with the Stow n Go seating. Next we will show you where the hitch installs in the vehicle. Using these two bolts right here, we are going to take these out. The middle one stays in its place. We will reuse these bolts. And behind the spring shackle, it is going to use this bolt here, too. Again, we are going to reuse that bolt on the install. And it is going to be identical on both sides. And this line has a little bit of flexibility so you can actually move it around to get your hitch installed when we get around to that. more

Today we are going to install part number 87522 from Hidden Hitch. And we are going to install this on an 2003 Dodge Durango. This also applies to part number 75081 from Draw-Tite. First off, we are going to show you where the hitch mounts. It is going to mount on this bracket right here, with the two bolt holes. And it is also going to come to the end of the frame, to the last crossmember, and it is going to use this hole right here. And there will be a stiffener plate that is going to go inside of here, also. It is a little bit different on the other side. On the drivers side, you are going to use the same hole on the end of the frame, right here. Again, it will get a stiffener bracket, and then also one of the bolt holes back here in the back. You need this one right here in the frame. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 - Video

Today we are going to install part number 82534 from Hidden Hitch. We are going to install this on a Dodge Ram 1500. First off, the hitch we are going to install on the frame and the side brackets. We are going to use this hole here, this one at the end of the frame, and this side bracket. It is going to be the same on both sides. And also, this install requires that the factory hitch not be installed on the vehicle. To begin our install, actually we are going to go ahead and put the hitch up against the frame. And there are two bolts that we are going to run into on the side brackets that hang down vertically. We are going to use those to put the hitch into position, and then we are going to wire the bolts to the frame. To show you an example here, some models have a significant gap between the hitch frame and the bracket coming down. It will be pretty similar on both sides if yours is off. It does come with these optional spacers right here to put in between the frame. They will go right here, and then that will take up some of the extra slack in there. When you tighten down the hitch, the bracket and the hitch will conform to take up the necessary space. We will go ahead and install these spacers on this particular hitch. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2002 Dodge Dakota - Video

Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 87554 on a 2002 Dodge Dakota. Alright, the first thing we want to do is go ahead and lower the spare tire and remove it and get it out of the way. Looking under the vehicle now, at the frame rails, the attaching points for the hitch are going to be here at the bottom of the frame. This existing hole, as well as this one here. There is a vertical attaching point as well, which is going to be where this bolt is here. So we need to actually remove the nut from the outboard side and pull this piece off. As you can see, there is an extra flange here that kind of holds the bolt in place while you are putting the nut on. If that happens to be pinched in between this particular set of bolts here, you might need to loosen these to allow this to be removed. So you will want to go ahead and remove this bolt and that assembly from both sides of the frame. As you can see I had to loosen these bolts here to get this top bolt out, the flange. You will want to make sure that you re tighten these as soon as you are able to get the top bolt out. Now that we have the bolt removed from the side of the frame, we will go ahead and put the hitch up into position. more

Now lets go ahead with the installation. Weve already gone ahead and removed the spare tire, this will make it easier to install our hitch. Our first step to installing the hitch is gonna be the removing the frame bolts, this is the forward frame fastener for the bumper tube bracket, theres one on each side, each side is identical so each process I do here on the driver side will be repeated identically on the passenger side. Lets go ahead and remove the fasteners now, hang on to these fasteners as they will be reinstalled when we put the hitch in place. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2010 Dodge Caliber - Video

Today on this 2010 Dodge Caliber we are going to be installing Draw Tite Hitch part number 24769. Before we get started with our installation we are going to go ahead and show you a couple of the final installed dimensions which are going to help make choosing your hitch accessories a little bit easier. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is going to measure 14, and from the center of the pin hole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to measure right at 6-1/2, and now we will go ahead and move on to our installation. Okay so we are up underneath the vehicle, and we want to go ahead and locate the hole that we are going to be using to mount the hitch to the vehicle. Starting over here on the drivers side, we are actually looking at the outboard side towards the end of the frame here, and if you see there are two holes here, and these holes actually pass all the way through the frame we will be using each one of those as our attaching points for our trailer hitch and thats actually going to be the same on the passengers side as well. What we are going to be doing is taking the provided 5/8 bolts here and inserting all the way through the holes, and the hitch will actually attach on the inboard side of the frame. more

Alright this is what the hitch looks like when its installed on the car and next well give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories.Have the receiver opening down to the ground and this car is going to be 9 inches and from the center of our hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the bumper is going to be 8 inches. First were going to show you how its installed. First thing we need to do is actually lower part of the exhaust and remove part of the exhaust to make it easier to install the hitch.
