Trailer Hitch Installation - 1998 Chevrolet Suburban

Today on this 1998 Chevrolet Suburban, we are going to install part number 75037 from Draw-Tite. This install also applies to part number 87546 from Hidden Hitch. Look at the passenger side here, we are going to show you exactly where the hitch is going to mount up. It is actually going to use these three existing holes that is going to be identical on both sides. All right, first thing we are going to do is enlarge the holes on the end of the frame. We are going to make those up to 1/ 2 inch. It is almost the same size as now but this is just to give a little extra room for the bolts. Now the next two holes here, we are going to enlarge to 9/ 16. Again it gives it better wiggle room to pull the bolt and the pull wire through. When you do this on the driver side be careful because the wire harness is laying inside the frame so be careful when you do that side. more

Okay, and also at the cross number at the rear of the vehicle, this hardware is going to be installed using this existing hole also. Going over to the passenger side is going to be identical except we are going to have to lower the exhaust to get access to that side. All right, we will go ahead and unbolt the bracket. All right next we are going to install a strap to control the exhaust and we will take down this back rubber hanger too to give us a little more room. more

We are looking at the driver side here which is going to use two factory attachment points. It is going to be using this hole here and this hole here. They are already threaded but it is a good idea to clean out the threads especially on older vehicles because of the dirt and grime that will get in there. Also towards the rear of the vehicle this area right here there will be a hole drilled out for the hitch. We will go ahead and move over to the passenger side now. more

Today we are going to install part number 36407 from Draw-Tite, and we are going to install this Class II trailer hitch receiver on a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. First we will show you where the hitch mounts up to the frame of the vehicle. The hitch is going to mount up to the bottom frame of the vehicle here and here. And then also it is going to mount to the outside hole here from a crossmember, one on both sides. And on the passengers side frame, it is going to be the same existing holes, but right now they are covered up by the exhaust. So that means that the next step is going to be to lower the exhaust. And that gives us a little more working room to install our hardware. more

First we will start off by showing you where the hitch is going to mount up to the frame. All right, the hitch is going to install using the existing hardware right here, using this hole toward the front of the vehicle. And it is going to be identical on both sides of the frame. And in the center of the bumper there are two more attaching points - these threaded fittings in the bumper. All right, we will go ahead and start taking off the existing hardware. We need to keep this, because it will get reused. And it is going to be the same thing on the drivers side. All right, next what we are going to do is go ahead and install some hardware into the frame for this attachment point right here. All right, we will install our plate, and our bolt, just like that. And we will do the same thing going back to the passengers side. more

Also, it will use this factory hole right here, and also it will use two holes in the bumper. We did a test fit on the hitch to make sure it clears the spare tire and if it does not, all you have got to do is lower the spare tire a little bit and move it out of the way. Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Chevrolet Malibu

Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 36317 from Draw-Tite on a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu LT. So we are going to start by lowering the exhaust down and then removing the four bolts from the end of the frame. We just want to basically pry the rubber hangers off of the studs here. To ease in the removal, we are going to go ahead and spray it down with a spray lubricant like a WD-40 . It makes the removal of the rubber hanger a lot easier. Before I remove the exhaust off its final hangers, I am going to go ahead and put a support strap on the exhaust tube here to keep it from falling once we remove all the hangers. The exhaust could fall too far down and that could possibly damage it. I am just using a basic tow strap you can use a bungee cord, as well. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Today we are going to be installing Curt hitch part number 13322 on a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. The first thing we want to do is to go ahead and lower our spare tire and get it out of the way so we have more room to work with. And then next I am going to go ahead and point out the attaching points for the trailer hitch. You can see here at the bottom of the bumper we have got two existing weld nuts. These are going to provide the two rearmost fasteners. At the end of the frame, you can see we have got an existing bolt. We are going to remove that and put a new fastener in its place to provide the middle attaching point. And then again, there is an existing hole here more forward on the frame, and that will provide our third attaching point. And to clean out the weld nuts, I am going to go ahead and spray them down with a spray lubricant, like a WD-40. And I am just going to take a wire brush and run that through there, and that will help to clean them out - get the corrosion and rust out of there. And once I have cleaned them out, I am going to go ahead and put the bolts in and run them in and out a few times just to further clean them. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 24681 from Draw-Tite on a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. You can see here at the bottom of the bumper there are two smaller holes that we are going to use as the rearmost attaching point. These two holes are going to need to be enlarged to 1/2 inch, and then we will feed our block and bolt into position. Also, a little bit forward here, you can see the main crossmember just rearward of the spare tire well. We are going to use the outboard holes on each side as the forwardmost attaching points. To get our hardware into this position, we are going to need to fish wire our bolt and block through this larger access hole here toward the end of the crossmember. So the first thing we are going to do is go ahead and fish the bolts and hardware into the forward crossmember, and then we will enlarge our holes here at the rear. In order to fish the bolts into this forwardmost crossmember, I am going to take a standard piece of what is called "stove wire," and what I am going to be doing is go ahead and feed it through the hole that we are going to be putting the hardware in and back out through the access hole here at the end of the crossmember. From there, we are going to take our 7/16 block and our 7/16 carriage bolt and we are going to feed it through the frame. What we are want to do is just feed the stove wire through the block and then we are just going to take and wrap the threads of the bolt with it. And then from there we can just feed the block into the crossmember, followed by the bolt, and we will just pull that into position. Okay, and we are going to do the very same thing here on the driver's side. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2002 Chevrolet Corvette

We are going to install part number 11034 from Curt on a 2002 Chevrolet Corvette. As you can see here, we already have one of the mufflers taken down already. Basically we did that to give you a better view of the frame. This is such a tight working area to begin with. The instructions say you do not have to do it, but I think overall it would be worth the effort to take down the mufflers and get your work done and then put them back up when you are done. What is going to happen is the hitch is going to install on this frame rail here and on the end of this frame rail here behind the bumper. What we are going to do is hold the hitch up into place, center it, and we are going to mark our holes. To take down the muffler, there is a bracket right here that gets unbolted. And you can simply pull it down and get our exhaust out of the way. And this clamp right here, which is in its original position right here, we just loosen it up and just push it back. Then we can take the whole assembly off. more

You use these two existing holes in the frame, and also this outside hole in the frame here, too. It will be the same thing on the passengers side. However, we are going to have to temporarily lower this exhaust so we have working room to get up in there. And then the exhaust will go back up when we are done. OK, we have got our exhaust down all the way now, and we will use our strap to pull it off to the side, and we will go ahead and start installing our hardware. What is going to happen is these plates and bolts will go inside this hole here and come out this hole and this hole. It is going to be pretty simple. We are going to run our bolt leader from one, out our access hole. Slide it on our plate - just pop that inside. And then screw on the bolt, pop it into place and back through. OK, we will do the same thing for the hole outside here, too. Same principle: just go through one hole and back out our access hole. This will use two of the longer of the six bolts. All right, with the hitch in place we will go ahead and drill a pilot hole, and the other holes we have to drill out in the frame will be right here. We will do one on each side toward the rear of the vehicle. And on some models you do not have to drill out back here, but on this model we actually have a hole that lines up with the body mount - no, the body bracket - so we will just go ahead and use that one. After we take the 3rd tab out of the 3rd hanger here we want to make sure that we support the exhaust system from when we remove it because it will fall to the ground and that could damage your exhaust. Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Chevy Uplander

One of the first steps involved is we have to remove some parts to have the ability to install the hitch. The pieces that have to be temporarily removed is this support bar right here and this hangar bar gets temporarily removed as well. Next well install the hitch with the four bolts we took out and temporarily install it, then we get ready for drilling. Once you get your hitch temporarily up there, tighten it up just enough so we can move the hitch around so it can be centered on the frame. One point to note on the 2006 model theres the existing weld nut that was for the thinner support on the passengers side gets re-used on this hitch. Run your bolt in there too to make sure youre centered on the frame. Now that you have your hitch centered on the frame, tighten up the bolts the way you want them, because that will help keep the hitch in place while we drill out our holes. Our hitch is in position so well go ahead and drill out our holes. Now that we have our holes drilled out, well go ahead and our handle nut inside the frame. Were going to bolt from the outside in. First well have to bend up the handle nut to make it go into the slot where you want it to. Remember the exhaust bracket we took down earlier, we can go ahead and put that back up now. Well take off the two bolts since the hitch is being held by the other four. Then well just put that bracket back in its place. All our bolts are back in place, all that remains is torquing them down to their specs. Well start with the center ones and work our way out. That does it for our hitch, it was pretty easy to install. One other note this vehicle didnt have a compressor so that made it a little bit easier for us. If it did have that youd have to take the bracket down, put the hitch up over the bracket mark the second hole and drill it out. Other than that, its a really easy hitch to do. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Chevy Aveo

The first thing that needs to be done the trunk liner needs to be taken so we can have access to the rear panel inside the trunk. Next we take apart two rubber plugs that in the back end of the trunk here and they pull out with a pair of pliers. Next well install the hitch on the tow loop to hold it in position so we can get the other two bolts in. After we remove the plugs, we install some silicone sealant around the holes to keep the engine exhaust from coming into the cabin and then well put the bolts in. After you get the first bolt in, you may want to put a nut on it to keep the rest of the hitch from moving around while you work on the last one. The last thing that needs to be done is just tighten the bolts up since you have the hitch in final position. Once you have the hitch bolts snugged down, give them their final torquing. That concludes this installation. more

What we will do is we use the fish wire here. Put it through this hole, put it out the big hole, and then pull our hardware from the outside in and then back out this way. It kind of helps to slide it up on the wire first, and this threads in. And it comes out just like that. This hitch uses this hole too. What well do is slide your plate on, then your bolt, pop it through the hole, put the plate in, and pull it back on through. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 1997 Chevy Express Full Size Van

The hitch basically attaches at six different points on the frame. If all the holes are existing we just put the bolts in and install the hitch. On the attachment points on the frame well be using this hole, this one, and this one right here. Repeat for the other side. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado

On most models of this pickup youre probably going to have the factory hitch in place. Weve already taken that off and are starting with the bare frame. The hitch is going to attach at this weld nut here at the end of the frame with these two attachment holes towards the front of the vehicle. Once we are down to the bare frame, the next step is to install the hitch. We use the bolts on the end of the frame to hold the hitch up and then well put the other bolts into place then well come back to the bolts at the end of the frame and put their washers on. For now were going to use the two bolts to hold everything in place for us. Its a fairly heavy hitch so you probably want an extra set of hands to help out. At this point we can start installing our bolts more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Chevy HHR

Today we are going to do an install for part number 60815 from Hidden Hitch. On a 2007 Chevy HHR. This also applies too part number 24756. To install the hitch we need to some bolts inside here. Then also this hole needs to be drilled out to accommodate these fasteners. It will be the same for the other side but I believe on an HHR you are going to have to drill on the driver side. Go ahead and lower the exhaust to get it out of the way. There are 3 rubber hangers. One is in front and another on the opposite side and one near the back almost hidden. All 3 of them come out so that you can lower the exhaust giving you more space. The rear most hole is the one you have to drill out kind of like an oval instead of round. We are going to pull our bolts into the frame and out the bolt hole. Whats going to happen is this bolt leader is going to get threaded into the original hole and install our hardware on the leader and pull it back through. It goes in the left side and comes out the right more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2003 Chevy Malibu

Today we are going to do an install of part number 90132 and we are going to do this on a 2004 Chevy Malibu. This also applies to part number 36317. Our first step is to go ahead and lower the exhaust. We do that by spraying the rubber hangers with some WD40 and pry off the rubber hanger. Once it is loose you can put it to the side for now. The next step is to remove these 2 nuts and take out these 2 bolts. These 2 in board weld nuts also must be removed. So what we will do is use a chisel and try and knock them out of there. Now you can go ahead and hang the hitch. It is a good idea to get an extra set of hands because a hitch is often wide and heavy. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Chevrolet Silverado

The first step is to lower the spare tire to make for more work room. We're using this hole here and that hole as well in the frame as well as two holes in the bumper. We're going to take out these two bolts, one here and one on the other side. After we've removed the existing bolts in the frame, we want to take our carriage bolt and block and set them in the frame. We're going to use the second most hole here towards the rear bumper, put one on both sides. Once we've positioned the blocks and bolts into the frame we'll go ahead and put our hitch up into position. We're going to re-use the bolts we've take out previously in the rearmost mounted location. Once we've loosely installed the bolts on each side, we now want to attach the bolts into the bumper. It's just under the license plate, you'll see two threaded holes in the frame. more
