Trailer Wiring Harness Kit Installation - Video
Today we are going to be installing the trailer wiring kit part number TL-29BK. Okay the first thing we are going to do before we get started is to go ahead and figure out a way that we want to route our 4-pole wiring harness back to our tail lights. On this particular trailer, we have got a nice long center tube here that is hollow so we are going to route our wires through there. Then we will T it off back towards the back to feed both of our tail lights and our side markers. You will notice that the harness itself is a wishbone type harness which means that it has got a single ground and you have got your running wire and right turn combined and then your running wire and left turn combined. So that you can T them off and split it down each side of the trailer. more

Trailer Wiring and Light Replacement Demonstration - Video
Today were going to be replacing the wiring on this trailer. We will be replacing a 4 pole flat, as you can tell this one is pretty beat up and worn, so it has to be replaced. We are going to cut this wire off and we are going to replace this brown wire also. We are going to cut this loose and pull the rest of our wire through, on this trailer here it is pretty open so we can reach the wiring. Just in case though, if your wiring was run in conduit and you are replacing it, do not pull all of this out yet. We will actually tie on the new wires and use these wires to pull them through. We are going to cut off all of this old wire here, and we are going to take off this old light too. I would like to point something out on this 4 pole flat, you will notice there are actually 5 wires coming out of it. What is happening is on the inside of this pin, which is for the running lights, has two wires coming out. more

Blazer Light Buster Backup and Utility Light Review - Video
Today we are going to show you the Light Buster backup and utility light for 7-pole connectors from Blazer, part number C8020. The Light Buster is designed to fit in the 7-way port on the back of your vehicle. The Light Buster has two modes, either utility mode or backup mode. To switch between the modes all you have to do is rotate the head of the light. You will notice that on the back of the light that there are three pins. The pin on the bottom right is the ground connection that is going to complete the circuit and connect to the ground on your 7-way on your truck. The large center pole is the reverse light. This pole only becomes active when you have your vehicle in reverse. The contact on the upper right is for your taillights. That means that in order to use the Light Buster in utility mode, you will need to have your vehicle headlights on. 0:54 more

This Old Trailer: Replace Wiring with a 7-Pole Cable - Video
Today on This Old Trailer we are going to replace the wiring on this trailer. Right now, this trailer has a 5 pull socket here and the owner uses a patch cord in between here and his tow vehicle. What we are going to do is remove all this and add a 7-way cable that leads right to his tow vehicle. We will be using part number H20046. We will unbolt the connector here. Then we will go ahead and untape it and undo the screw right here, it should release the inside part where the pins are and the wires are connected. Tale that, push everything out. This Old Trailer: Troubleshooting the Full Ground Wire - Video
We have demonstrated all of these fixes checking the ground on the trailer. The trailer itself is actually used as a ground obviously. Now there is some cases where you boat trailer guys and some small utility trailers out there, the ground is actually carried in a separate wire that lowers the trailer frame completely. The same tricks apply to check and make sure your light is working. Again the connection to the light could be bad or it could be actually a smashed wire underneath the frame of the trailer or also up front where you have got a little bit of road rash dragging the ground. This Old Trailer: Finding and Fixing Wiring Shorts Part 2 - Video
Now we will move on to another circuit. In this case it will be the right turn circuit. And we will just check the signal on that. On the right turn signal here again, the same principle applies. Start from the front and work you way back. What happens a lot is that on some of these lights here where the wire gets ran in behind it, there is a channel that these wires fit into. However a lot of times, even on brand new trailers. This wire actually does not fit in the channel, they miss when they put it together. The wire gets smashed between the light and the frame of the trailer. Eventually they wear down to a minuscule spec of wire that is visible but it will cause a short and all kinds of headaches. more

This Old Trailer: Finding and Fixing Wiring Shorts - Video
Today on This Old Trailer, we are going to discuss electrical shorts on the trailer itself. Basically we are going to talk about if you plug up your trailer and you find out that you have a blown fuse and the tail light does not work, the running light does not work. We will go through this trailer we have here and try to find some problems with it and show you what to look for. Basically when you are dealing with a short you are going to look for physical evidence. And that means tracing the wire from the front all the way out back. So what is going to happen is basically we are going to start at the plug. Generally it is going to be somewhere down here that has a problem like it has extra extra long length here and it is going to be dragging on the ground so it gets some road rash in there. more

Wiring Trailer Lights Review - Video
Today were going to talk about a problem that comes up in our e-mails sometimes, how to wire these lights up. A lot of people wonder how to the wires into this light fixture. Some people think there is a plug missing when actually there is not and well show you how to work that. As you can see here the back of the light is labeled for what wire goes to what you have green for the right turn signal and brown for the running lights, on the other side it would be yellow for the left turn. However since were using this one light we do not have to worry about that. Just take you wire and strip it back to anywhere from 3/8 to 1/2 an inch, it does not take much. Give it a good twist because that makes the wire stronger as it goes in. Now the brown wire to about a half inch or so, not that much. Then what well do is you simply just take it and it does not matter which hole you use as long as the green wire stays on this side of the bar. more
