Wiring Harness Installation on 2005 Jeep Liberty
On this install we are going to install part number 118382 it is a T-One wiring connector for a 2002 - 2007 Jeep Liberty. First Step involves getting to the tail lights themselves. What we need to do is open the door and get to the screws that hold the tail lights in place. First step is taking off the tail lights, well start with the easy side (The right side). Once you get the screws out, a good tip is to put a piece of paper between the bumper and the light, you will probably be pulling down on the light and you might scratch the paint. Once you have your tail light housing off you might as well take it off the wire harness because your going to need to anyway. The trick is to this, its pretty easy, there is a little red tab here you just go ahead and push out. Then there is another tab here to push down on, and this thing comes apart. Moving on to the drivers side, its a little harder to get to the screws. Basically you get a long extension to get to the screws and just back them out the other side.
We are now ready to install the wire harness itself. Well start on the drivers side and well go ahead and run the wires for the hitch and the passengers side down the cavity. Then well make our connections to the drivers side and mount our converter box. Once we have our wires temporarily arranged through the cavity here, lets go ahead and ground our wire here to the body here. Then well make our connections to this, then our mount box will hide down here. Well attach it here inside the cavity to this piece of body component. This head screw will make sure it does not go anywhere. Once you have your connections made, we can go ahead and re-install the drivers side light. A couple notes you want to take care of, when you put these together make sure you push that red tab all the way through. If you do not the connectors can back apart and give you all kinds of havoc with your electrical system. Well show you on this one too. Next we have to run our green wire from the drivers side to the passengers side behind the bumper. Its going to run across the top of the hitch and up through the tail light. What we did is just temporarily zip tied the wires into position. Well go ahead and zip tie the green wire along the hitch in different places just to secure it. Then well go ahead and take up the slack and make sure we have it the way we want it. Now that we have the wires loosely ran the way we want them, well go ahead and pull the green wire off to the side taking up the slack. It does not have to be super tight.
Back topside, were going to install our passenger side light. One thing you want to do is go ahead and make your connections just like before. One extra thing you want to do on this side is pull the wire slack out again. It will be stopping at the last zip tie down there. Pull it up gently and double check that its not wrapped around the exhaust pipe or anything. Then go ahead take your extra wire and zip tie it to your bundle here so it has plenty of working room. All we have to do now is re-install the screws.
Once you have your wiring installed were going to test the connections to make sure everything is working. Ground your tester, have a helper turn on the running lights, turn signals, and brake lights. In this case, it looks like all the functions work. That will conclude the install on our wiring harness. The only deviation we actually made from it is that we used some extra zip ties along the hitch. We went out and got some extra long ones as the kit did not come with any, but you can never have too many zip ties.
