How to install a trailer hitch on a 1998 Toyota Camry Video
To begin with it may be easier to lower the exhaust to provide clearance to remove the heat shield bolt.
The next step is to remove the tow down hooks on the drivers and passengers side of the vehicle to expose the existing holes in the frame. This particular model doesn't have tow hooks existing, but you can see the two bolt holes that you would use for the mounting of the hitch.
Then we remove the rearmost heatshield mounting bolt under the frame, that the hitch will use for attachment.
The next step is to put the hitch up into place and mount it with the holes that go down where the tiedown brackets were removed.
Once you have the hitch up into place using the two rearmost fasteners you want to drill out to forward most fasteners on the driver side with a 7/16 inch bit.
Once you have drilled the holes in the frame you want to lower the hitch down and put in the 7/16 inch u-bolt into the existing holes you have just drilled.
Once you placed the u-bolt securely into the frame, you want to mount the hitch back up into place with the fasteners.
Once you've got the bolts into place, tighten them up with a torque wrench to their specified torque rating. Take care when you do the u-bolts to make sure the torque them evenly.
Once you've finished torquing the bolts down the only thing left, if you did lower the exhaust, is to put it back up into place.
And that's the completed hitch on a Toyota Camry, code number 90650.
