See an actual installation of this Draw-Tite Class I hitch. The fishwire process may seem difficult but after you see how it is done you will be ready to tackle this project. Once installed you will be ready to tow your jet ski or small trailer where ever and when ever you want.

Today we are going to do an install on part number 24678 on a '99 Dodge Neon. This also applies to the same year model Plymouth Neon. The way this hitch installs is that it installs in this hole here and this hole here. We'll have to use fishwire blocks and bolts from this large hole here and pull it through out these holes here and this is where the hitch will mount up between these two areas here and the same thing on the other side. In some instances the kit comes with the wire pulls that pulls the bolts through and some hitches don't. In this case we don't have that so we are going to use is a stiff piece of wire (sometimes called stove wire) you could also use safety wire just basically any wire that you can use that you can manipulate and hold its shape will work basically. What we need to do is run this through out the frame and out this hole and we'll pull our bolt and plate back through. There are two different sized blocks. The small block will go up towards the absolute rear of the vehicle. We'll put the wire onto the threads, wrap it around it, try to get inside a thread but don't cross thread it. Then we just have to pull everything through. You may have a little bit of a hard time getting the wire through with the bolt maybe will rust in them. take a drill bit and clean out the hole. We'll do the hole towards the front right here. Probably not necessary but we'll show you the steps again anyway since the hole is really close to the frame. And we'll repeat the same steps on the other side.

At this point we can actually go ahead and hang our hitch. What we'll do is just get one bolt started putting on there to support one half and then we'll switch to the other side and do the same thing making sure the two bolts are coming through the hitch and we don't push them back into the frame. Once you have the hitch securely up there we'll go ahead and install the lock washers and nuts and tighten everything up. Make one final check to make sure all the right fasteners are in the right spots and then we'll go ahead and snug the hitch to the frame. One other thing you might want to check out is make sure you have plenty of clearance around your exhaust; generally about a quarter of an inch is all you need but if you can get any more the better. You can shift the hitch a little bit to get it where you want it, make sure it is even with the bumper and maybe with the license plate. Just one more double check to make sure everything is sitting where you want it and we'll go ahead and give the bolts their final torque. And that finishes if for our install, part number 24678 for a '99 Dodge Neon.
