Review of the Thule Revolver Swinging Trailer Hitch Mounted Bike Rack
Today we are going to show you part number TH964 from Thule. This is their swinging 4 bike carrier for 2 inch trailer hitches. The Thule Eevolver. What we have here is a hitch mounted bicycle rack that is designed for 2 inch trailers hitches. It can hold up to 4 bikes and it has the unique ability to swing in and out from the vehicle so you have complete access to the rear of your vehicle when you need too. We will go ahead and start to show you all the features of this rack starting at the bottom and working our way up. One of the more important features of this bike rack is that it has a built in anti sway device. Basically it has this bolt that goes through and is threaded to the bicycle rack. Which essentially bolts the bike rack to the hitch. It comes packaged with a tool that you can use to tighten it up. So that it becomes one with your vehicle.
Now on the other side of your hitch pin you can see it coming out of the other side. It also keeps someone walking up with a wrench and taking it apart. Thule does provide a lock to go with this bike rack. Like this nice simple device that you put in and turn they key and you are good to go. One of the most important facts about this bike rack is the swing away feature itself. It is very nice it because it enables you to get to the back of your vehicle. The top rack swing away lets you loosen this bolt here and what it does is it cinches these 2 parts here together so they do not move. We undo this bolt and the bike rack and we can swing it out of our way. Also as you can see the bolt is tracked so it will not fall out. Finally, pull this latch and it unlocks the swinging arm. At this point you have 2 options.
You can have it set at an angle almost 90 degrees but if you change the pin to the other position you can have it at 180 degrees. If you are going to go past 90 as your angle. Whats nice is there is a second pivot point that allows you to keep your bikes on here but you can pivot it out and therefore keep your bikes away from your vehicle still all the way up to 180 degrees. There is also a little latch here that is pulled up so everything is nice and tight. Our next feature we want to point out is that the top rack up here as you saw earlier it also folds back down for storage. It is a simple lever and it folds down for storage. What is also really nice about the Thule bike rack here is that it has a built in security system. The security cable itself actually stores within the carrier and you just pull it out and it meets with the other end on the other bar. Then they assemble like that. You will also notice it has nice big cradles to carry your bikes on. Also down here at the bottom we have the anti-sway device which keeps your bikes from swaying back and forth and slamming into each other or at least minimizing the effect. On the revolver here you have a choice of left or right side. Depending on the type of bike and where you have the cables ran. You do not want to get them pinched. We will go ahead and load up the bike so we can show you just how the cradles work with the bike. As you an see here the cradles are nice and padded. They also have grooves in them to keep the cables from running along and rubbing on your frame.
Moving on down the bike we have another anti-sway strap. What this does is just wrap around the frame and pull it tight. What that does is keep your bike from swaying front to rear. We will go ahead and tie down the rest of the bike. Again you have a choice of doing it on this side or that side whichever you find more comfortable. Getting back to that cable lock we will show you how it works. Now we will show you how good of a product this Thule bike rack is. For the simple fact of getting to the rear of your vehicle. As you can see now we have full access to our gate. You might not think that is much of a big deal but if you have a normal bike rack you would to take off your bikes, take the bike rack off the hitch and then you have access to the rear of the vehicle. With the Thule Revolver you do not have to do that. Mothers with kids this is great because you can get right to the back hatch of your vehicle without all the trouble of taking off the bike rack. There you have it for part number TH964 from Thule. This is their swinging 4 bike carrier for 2 inch trailer hitches.
