Reese 5 Bike Carrier Demonstration
This bicycle rack is good for 5 bikes and fits only a two inch receiver hitch. We'll start off with how this rack goes together. What we can do next is demonstrate how the bikes actually get attached to the cradles. Step one is to insert your safety pin to make sure the rack won't go anywhere. Now lets install the bicycle. As you can see, this is how a standard frame bicycle will attach to the rack. Next we'll show you how an alternative frame will mount onto here. What's nice about this rack is the cradles themselves can be tilted left or right as stated before, and it will accommodate the alternative frame bike. As you can see this rack will hold an alternative frame bike nice and level just like the bike behind it without the use of an adapter bar. We'll cover the features about this rack starting off with the cradle. Starting off at the top we'll talk about the knob and the lock with it. Basically what it does is the key lock disengages the lock from the threads, when it's unlocked you can actually run the threads up and down. When you lock the handle the threads get disengaged then the handle can't move anywhere and you can't take off the bike. Next we'll talk about the cradle itself. As you can see there is plenty of rubber cushion between the bicycle rack and the bicycle. The cradle itself has many grooves in it for all your cables to run through and not get pinched by the frame of your bike it's also at the top and the bottom of the cradle. Also due to the design of the rack, the cradles have front to rear and left to right tilt. As you can see the alternative frame bike, the cradle is tilted to accommodate the top tube. Again you do not need an adapter bar. On the last cradle you'll notice the bracket, it's designed for a strap to get connected to the vehicle itself. It's there to keep excessive forces from the rack bouncing up and down. Generally you use a strap for four and five bike applications, rough roads, potholes. It's just extra security to keep it from moving around. The next feature about this rack is the tilt ability. What you can do is tilt the rack so you can get into the back of your vehicle for a hatchback, minivan, and what not. The first step to do is take off the safety pin and go ahead and unlock it. Next you want to give it a gentle pull up, and let it fall back. One last note is the secondary lock that is on here, it looks like a coke machine lock. What it does is it keeps someone from basically unbolting it and being able to take the whole assembly off. It's a real nice touch, and really easy to use. One last thing to consider, you may want to measure the width of the cradle. Some really small bikes out there, you may want to take this measurement and compare it to what you have. The measurement of the cradle all the way across to its widest point is 7 1/4 inches. To recap this is part # S64970, it's a folding 5 bike carrier for a two inch receiver hitch only.
