Wiring Harness Installation - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix - Video

4 Pole Flat Wiring Harness

Today we are going to show you the install of part number 18172. It is a 4 pole wiring harness which needs to be hardwired through the vehicle. It is not vehicle specific but we will be showing the the typical application of it. The vehicle we will be using is a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix. The wiring is located behind the paneling here. In here we will pull apart the covering here and get to the all different kinds of wiring. Too find out what color does what we will need a test light. You connect it to a wire and turn on one function at a time. Running lights are on as we touch the wires with the wire tester to find the action of each wire. Now that we know which one is the running lights circuit on your 4 pole. We will go ahead and start with the running lights, and to verify we will turn off the running lights and make sure that is our circuit. So we will go ahead and install the running lights to our 4 pole. On your packaging you can tell what wire does what. Green is right turn, brown is running lights, yellow is left turn and white goes to ground.... more

Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Connector

Today we are going to show you part number 118336 from Tow Ready and we are going to install it on a 2007 Honda Pilot. To begin our install we have to gain access to the inside of the vehicle and take off the rear threshold. That port we need to get to is underneath the threshold. A little bit towards the center but closer to the driver side. Next this threshold panel needs to come off also. They actually come off pretty easy. On this tray here we push back a little bit and we can see the port right here. Once we have gone ahead and plugged it in we will stick our little converter box on right here. There is just enough room. We can stick it against the wall and keep it out of harms way. We can tuck these wires back in there. You can either run the wires back out through this hole or sometimes there is a crack in this little hole you can run it through also.... more

Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector

Today we are going to be installing a wiring harness 118369 which will fit 1999 to 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. We are inside the back hatch now of the Grand Cherokee. There are also going to be 3 screws we are going to have to remove to access the wiring harness. You need to remove this screw here on the threshold. Both of these screws are here for the cargo tie down. Both of which need to be removed also. With these 3 screws removed we want to go ahead and remove this whole interior panel here. Besides the screws there are push rivet fasteners that are all inside here and along the inside of the side pieces as well. So we need to gain access to the interiors so we need to pop this side off. Go ahead and remove the bottom cargo tray to give us a little more room to work.... more

Today we are going to install part number 118241 from Tow Ready on our 1996 Ford Explorer. This one has a tow package on the vehicle and we will show you how to identify it. On our 1996 model here we have the actual tow package is located right here. It is pretty handy it basically plugs in and you are ready to go. However some other models it could be under one of the tail lights. It should be on either the left or right side. On those models they usually have the plug sometimes on both sides. One of them is active and one of them is not. This is about here sometimes you will find this plug also it could be here or it could be on the driver side. Simply plug it in then route the harness the way you want on the way to the opposite side. We will use zip ties to hold everything in place. There you have it for part number 118241 from Tow Ready. We will also be using the accompanying Modulite wiring kit part number 118151. To begin our install what we are going to do is take apart the plastic on the inside of the vehicle. It is pretty time consuming but it is very easy to do if you just take your time. So we will open up the trunk and get inside. We start by taking apart the trunk liner and getting down to where the spare tire is. Also take out the side pockets there is one on each side. We are going to use that for access so that it can fit into our wiring harness. We will have to take off our tail lights to test and see what wire does what. To get to our access point which is about down here and underneath this panel. So we will have to roll back the carpeting and pull up the tray and gain access that way. Once you get everything out of the way it is pretty clear that this is the plug right here for the harness. So our T connector can plug right into here. Then this panel that covers up the threshold you can simply pop off this panel and there is an identical one on the other side. Connecting the driver side first we will run the wires underneath the sheet metal and plastic. Pulling it up through the hole left by the paneling here. Then we can disconnect the wiring from the tail light and this T-Connector can fit. Then this end goes back onto the light socket. Wiring Harness Installation on a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado - Video

OEM Style 7-Way & 4-Way Trailer Connectors

The 2007 Silverado body style as well as the 2008 styles have a place on the bumper where the plug can be mounted. We remove the cover here to give us the hole to mount the plug into place. Once we've removed the knockout from the bumper area we'll place the harness into position. We're going to have to drill holes out to mount this into place. You can use either a pen to mark the holes or a punch tool which is what I'm going to use. Now we can move onto the drilling. Once we get the holes drilled, we want to mount the connector into place with the existing fasteners. Once we have the fasteners in we want to secure them with the nuts on the back side and tighten them down. Once we've mounted the plug onto the bumper area, we just need to make the connection up underneath the vehicle here. This is the back end of the connector we just installed, and this is the other side of the factory 7 peg connector. You just want to plug these together. This concludes the installation of wiring harness part # 30959 on a 2007 Chevy silverado. ... more

The object is we have to get behind this panel over here, but to do that we have to take off this threshold strip because part of the panel lies underneath it. So we'll take off these tie downs and we should be able to take this threshold off. To get this off there's clips underneath here, you can use a wide screwdriver or gasket scraper. The wider the better to better distribute the force while prying it up. Once you get that off we can start working on this panel here. Now that we have the threshold off we can loosen this panel. We take out these two screws and the rest of the panel kind of pops off. Try to take out as little as possible so you can reach in and get to the connector. ... more

Tail Light Isolating Diode System for Towing Vehicles - Video

Tail Light Isolating Diode System

This part is for a vehicle to vehicle towing kit. What this basically does is, say you have an RV or motor home or pickup truck and you're going to towing another vehicle on all four wheels you're going to need this wiring harness to make the lights on the towed vehicle work with the towing vehicle. We'll start by showing you the different components of this kit, it's really pretty simple if you break it down. First the connection here is a traditional four pole flat. So you have your four basic signals, your ground, running lights, left turn and right turn. You also have plenty of harness to attach this on the towed vehicle. When you make your connections on the towed vehicle itself, you have to install these diodes here. At the point where you make your connections on your vehicle whether it be your left or right turn or the running light circuit you will have to install these diodes.... more

4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter

Today we're going to show you a popular upgrade. We have here a four pole flat that's been installed on a vehicle. The owner has a boat trailer now and it has a five wire flat. So we're going to convert that four wire to a five wire flat. Our first step we need to do is take off the four pole and then we'll uninstall the bracket and put in the new bracket. It may take some force, but you have to pull to get this out of here. We actually used a rubber mallet to tap it a little bit, now this bracket can come off which we've previously loosened up. Now we'll install our new bracket and it will go in the same spot as before. What we're going to do next is get our four pole ready which we've cleaned out with WD-40 and then we're going to put in some dielectric grease. We'll put that inside here and then we're going to attach our four pole from our adapter inside there. ... more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2007 Nissan Xterra - Video

To give you an idea of what we're going to do, typically the modulite and other hardwired modules will get wired usually behind the tail lights. Most of the time you get four functions on the left hand side and the one right turn function on the right hand side. However on Nissans they actually run part of there tow harness here and this is the plug right here. What's active on it only is the left and right hand turn and the brake signal. The wire is ran for the running light, but is not active. To make it active you have to buy the whole towing kit from the manufacturer OEM. What we're going to do is show you a way to work around that where you don't have to run behind the lights and just basically fill in the blanks with the tow package. This is a pretty simple process, just go ahead and push this down, pull it out, get your T connector, line up the slots and pop it back in there. The hard part is finding a place where you want to mount it to get it out of the way. What we'll do is use this screw that goes through this hole here. Hold it to where you want it, make a few marks with it and then draw the marks. We then drill a hole and re-attach the screw. After attaching this here we ran our wires across behind the hitch and there's a wire harness back up in here we had zip tied the access to take up the slack. Take care when testing, do one at a time complete your circuit and move on to the next one. Now what we're going to do is route our wires where they're going to go first and then make the wire connections. Once we locate the connection point we want to flip back this red tab, which is holding it in place, and push the button down on the topside and pull the connectors apart. This time we want to take the t wiring harness and plug it into this. The next step is to find a suitable grounding point for the connector. We going to go ahead and drill a hole here into the metal. Once we've drilled the hole we want to attach the ground loop with the screw to the middle. Once we've connected the passenger side we'll move to driver side and get behind the tail light assembly as well and pull back the threshold.... more

Wiring Harness Installation on a 2006 Chevy Uplander - Video

T-One wiring harness 118396

First we'll open up the rear door and start disassembling the tail lights and take them off the body. We'll go ahead and take off one of the tail lights here. There's two torque bolts that need to be taken out and light pops off from the housing. Okay the lights are off so now it's time to start installing the wire. What we'll do is push the four pole through the cavity between the bumper and the body and out the bottom plus the end for the passenger's side too. We'll leave the end for the driver's side tail light up in the air, we'll make the connections with the harness and the tail light. With the driver's side tail light re-installed, pull out all your slack on your line here, what we'll do next is thread it through behind these bumper brackets. We'll go across all four of them, what we'll do is take some extra zip ties and tie it to that so they won't be dangling and in the way.... more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation on a 2003 Volvo S40 - Video

Modulite Installation Wiring Kit

To begin with, all the wiring is in the trunk of the vehicle. We'll get into our trunk, take out a couple of the panels in the bottom threshold, and we can see our wiring from there. We have to take out our panels here, you can see the little rivet here that twists a little bit and pops right out. There's one on each side here and here, which we have to take off too. Once we have our panel out of the way, we have all of our wiring exposed to the driver's side tail light and we also have a nice ground here we can use. We'll take apart the other side to get to our wiring, then we'll test for signals. What we've done here is use a piece of angled iron you can use whatever you want to hold this out of the way. We'll test for the running lights to see what wire it is, and what we'll do on this one is we'll pull out the socket assembly like so, and as you can see we have our running light... more
