Today on our 2012 Ford Fusion we'll be test fitting the Prorack Two Bike Carrier for 1-1/4 Inch and 2 Inch Hitches. This is a platform style bike carrier, part number pr8062400. To begin our test fit we'll slide the shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of our hitch. Line up the pin hole and thread in our anti-rattle bolt tightening it with a wrench.Then we can go ahead and install the clip on the other side. Now we'll go ahead and go over a few clearance measurements. We have about 15-1/2 inches of ground clearance.more

Swagman G10 Hitch Bike Rack Review- Video

Today we'll be taking a look at the Swagman G10 Two Bike Carrier, part number s64681. The Swagman G10 is built for 1-1/4 inch hitches for both classes I and II. It's also compatible with the 2 inch hitch when using the included adapter sleeve. The G10 can carry up to two bikes at 45 pounds per bike.On the Swagman G10 we'll find ratcheting hooks on the pivoting upright arm which helps hold our bike securely by the frames. It has also has the sliding wheel cradles that simply adjust with the hand knobs along the bike rack arms to accommodate bikes of different lengths. On the tilt feature of this bike carrier there's a cam-action lever at the base that lets you tilt the rack down or fold it up.Theres a combination hitch lock and cable lock that secures the rack to your vehicle and your bikes to the rack.more

Now with our two inch adapter already removed from our carrier, we'll slide the shank into the opening of the hitch, line up our pin holes, thread our anti-rattle bolt through the pin holes and tighten with a wrench.Now with our Thule Vertex secured to our Hyundai Sonata we'll go over a few clearance measurements to see how they fit together. There's about 11 inches of ground clearance. Closest part of the carrier to the closest part of the vehicle here at the rear bumper is about four inches. With the cradle arms folded down we've added about 12 inches to the overall length of the vehicle.We'll now pull the gray lever at the top of the mast to swing the cradle arms out and we'll measure from the vehicle's trunk to the end of the carrier's cradle arms and we'll get a measurement of 41 inches. Now with this bike carrier and this vehicle you can access the trunk with the mast in its upright position or we can pull the handle at the bottom of the carrier to tilt the mast down.To load the bike we'll make sure that the mast is in its upright position, we'll undo the cradle straps, set the bike into the frame cradles and secure with the straps.more

There's about 11 inches of ground clearance. The closest part of the carrier to the closest part of the vehicle here at the rear bumper is about two inches. With the cradle arms folded down we've added about twelve inches to the overall length of the vehicle.We'll now pull the gray lever at the top of the mast to swing the cradle arms out and we'll measure from the vehicle's trunk to the end of the carrier's cradle arms and we'll get a measurement of 41 inches. Now with this bike carrier and this vehicle you can access the trunk with the mast of the carrier in its upright position or you can pull the gray lever at the bottom of the carrier to tilt the mast down.To load the bike we'll make sure that the mast is in its upright position.more

We can now pull the black lever at the top of the mast to swing the cradle arms out and for the vehicle's rear bumper to the end of the cradle arms we've added an additional 36 inches to the overall length of the vehicle.Now with this bike carrier you can access the trunk of the vehicle with the mast in its upright position or you can pull the black lever at the base of carrier to tilt the mast down to be able to load larger cargo easier.more

Weve added about 22 inches to the overall length of our vehicle.Now, well go ahead and pull the three pins at the base of the carrier to go allow it to go into loading position. As you can see, with our center mast out of the way, we can easily gain access to the trunk of our vehicle.Now, well go ahead and put the center mast back in its upright position.Well extend the frame hooks all the way to the top of the bar, undo the wheel straps, and then grab our bike.more

We have about 17 of ground clearance. From the closet point of the carrier to the closet point on the rear of the vehicle is about six inches, with the bike carrier in the folded position, weve added about 11 to the overall length of our vehicle. Well now go ahead and pull up on the red knob pin on the back of the mast to tilt down our bike carrier.As you can see we can still open our tailgate door with it making little or no contact to the bike carrier.more
