Fifth Wheel Installation - 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 3500- Video

Fifth Wheel Installation - 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Today we are installing fifth wheel part number RP50064-58 on a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. This is a fifth wheel install kit with the rails. The first thing we need to do is get the truck ready. We need to lower the spare tire because we will need access underneath the vehicle. Also, remove the rear wheels as well. You do not have to remove the rear wheels, but by doing so it will make it a lot easier to get to the side of the frame for attachment points. We are underneath the truck, the first thing we are going to do is lower the exhaust. Remove the rubber hanger towards the back and one or two as needed. Next we are going to remove sections of the heat shield. Right here along this cross member, and here along the hat channel. Also, on the other side of the hat channel, remove a section as well. In doing so, it will give us room to tighten down the bolts for the hitch. Tap the edges of the heat shield up against the hat channel to keep it out of the way while tightening up our bolts. This vehicle has a built in brake controller, so we are going to have to deal with that underneath the truck as well. It is installed along the inside of the frame rail on the drivers side. It is held on by five bolts. What happens when you set your frame bracket in place, it will not sit flush against the frame. You want it to do that, so we are going to use a service kit and remount the modules out of the way. That is going to be part number 58318. It consists of this plate right here, and the hardware needed to reinstall the electrical components. All of this will be on the backside of the frame, spaced out. We will start by removing these five bolts. We are also going to loosen this bolt here, for the bracket that holds the brake line on the back side, giving us more working room. Well put it back when were done. We will show you the two pieces that we loosened up, here and here. 1:52 more

Today on this 2009 GMC Sierra pickup we are going to install part number RP50064-58. To get started, we need to do a few things in preparation. First off what we are going to do is lower the spare tire so we have some working room underneath there. And second, we are going to go ahead and remove the heat shield. Now we are not going to take out the whole thing. We just need to take out a section of it. Cut it right behind the second to last cross member. This one has a round tube that goes across on the frame. So we will cut right in front of that. And then, further up above the muffler here, we are going to make a cut right next to the hat channel for the bed itself. And then, we will go ahead and remove these two bolts right here and lower the whole thing down. Now if you cannot get these bolts loose, you will probably just have to cut on both sides of the hat channel to remove both pieces then. 1:08more

Today on this 2007 Chevrolet Silverado we are going to install part number RP50064-58. Alright, while we are under the truck we will go ahead and remove this section of the heat shield because we are going to need wrench access for the bolts that come down for the second rail. After that, we will go ahead and start with the bed itself and measure out our first rail that will get installed in the bed. That will be the rail going towards the front. What we are going to do is measure from the edge of the bed itself and measure out as described in the instructions. Alright, that will set our distance from front to rear. Now we will just get it centered from left to right. We just measure from the inside edge of the fender well over to the rail. Go ahead and mark the holes that we are going to be drilling out through the bed. And on this kit we are going to be using the two outside holes here on this rail. Alright with the marks we made we will go ahead and drill out some pilot holes. When you are drilling out this hole, make sure you are careful about it because beneath here is where the gas tank lies. 0:57more

The first thing we need to do is get the truck ready to install the kit. The first thing we did was remove the spare tire so we can get underneath the vehicle and install the hardware. We will also lower the exhaust because above the exhaust there is a heat shield and we need to move the exhaust out of the way so that we can cut the heat shield out of the way. We will look at the passenger side frame rail of the vehicle and this is the heat shield that goes all the way across. We are actually going to remove two sections of this. We are going to remove this section here from this hat channel as far back as we can because right here is where we have to have wrench access to tighten down parts. The second section we are going to remove is on this side of the hat channel, there are two right in a row, so we are going to cut across here and we are going to go all the way to the next hat channel up here and go across as well. 00:57more

The second thing we want to do is go to the driver side of the vehicle and disconnect the the hanger that holds the parking brake cable. That will get reattached to the frame bracket when we install that. This is the back side of the nut that we just took off of the bolt so we will just pull that out of our way. What is going to happen is this is going to get sandwiched between the bracket and the actual frame of the vehicle when we reinstall it. The next thing we are going to do is go to the bed of the truck and we will put the first rail in and mark its location. As you can see here we have got the first rail in the bed of the pickup and what you need to do is measure from the edge that we see facing us towards the edge of the bed itself. Fifth Wheel Hitch Installation - 2008 Ford F250

We begin the installation of our fifth wheel trailer hitch by lowering the spare tire on our 2008 Ford 250 Super Duty. Next, we want to loosen the bed bolts to make it easier to install the rails for our fifth wheel hitch. Now we can slide the first rail over the frame and under the truck bed. With first rail in place towards the rear of the truck, we can then slide the second rail into place. Once we have the rails in place across the truck, we insert the bolts to level out the mounting brackets. After the rails are in place and bolts tightened, we retighten the bed bolts to make sure there will be no shifting. This ensures that all of the holes we are going to drill will align properly. Now we mark the holes where we need to drill through the side of the frame at the front and rear of the frame brackets. Before drilling your holes, check the inside of the frame rail on each side of the truck to make sure it is clear of any wiring or lines that run from the front to the back of the truck. more

Fifth Wheel Hitch Installation - 2007 Chevy Silverado

Today we are going to be installing the Signature Series Fifth Wheel part number 30061. On a 2007 new body style Chevy Silverado pickup 2500. The first thing we need to do is lower the spare tire to gain access to the under body. Next we will need to remove the heat shield or else it will be in the way during our installation. After we remove the heat shield we want to go ahead and put the rear cross member into place. As you can clearly see that we have already put the cross member in. It will be easier if you loosen or remove the bed bolts. There are 4 middle ones that if you take them out or loosen they will allow you extra room when putting the cross member back into position. Then go ahead and install the front and rear channel. You can see we have both cross members into position now. The next step will be to mount the side brackets on the side of the frame. more
