Rapid Hitch w/ 3- 1/ 2 Inch Drop Review - Video

Rapid Hitch w/ 3- 1/ 2 Inch Drop Review

Today we are going to review part number AM3460 from Andersen Manufacturing. This is their Rapid hitch ball mount. This ball mount is constructed of aluminum alloy that is designed for two inch by two inch receivers. This ball mount has an adjustment between a 3- 1/ 2 inch and a 4-1/ 2 inch rise. The hitch balls themselves are constructed of chrome plated steel. This one does come with a pin to adjust the ball mount up and down but does not come with a locking pin. You do have to supply your own locking pin or hitch pin. Also, this product is made in the U.S.A. Lets cover some of the features more in detail. 00:33 more

Rapid Hitch w/ 10 Inch Drop Review

Today we are going to review part number AM3473 from Andersen Manufacturing. This is their Rapid Hitch ball mount. This ball mount is constructed of aluminum alloy with the hitch ball assembly itself constructed of chrome plated steel. This comes with two locking hitch pins, one for the hitch itself and also one for the hitch ball assembly where you adjust it on the shank. Our last favorite feature is that this product is made entirely in the U.S.A. You can see here this is in position and it is intended to use in this position only. This is a great ball mount for vehicles that have been lifted a little bit or just natural one ton trucks that happen to sit high in the air. Lets cover the features with a little more detail now. 00:42 more

WeatherTech Air Deflectors Reveiw - 2008 Toyota Prius - Video

WeatherTech Air Deflectors Reveiw - 2008 Toyota Prius

Today on this 2008 Toyota Prius we are going to install part number WT82357. Some of the features of the air deflectors are one, that they are designed to reduce noise and also allows ventilation for the vehicle itself even when it rains. They are easy to install inside the window channel with no exterior tape needed. It provides a low profile original equipment look. You want to begin with the window lowered and you can see how this edge will fit into the track just like that. I would like to start on that side and then going towards the front of the vehicle, just bow it into place. Make sure it fits into the track and then just bow it in. Make sure you follow the channel so it goes into place. It may help to flex it a little bit like this to get it in there. That slipped in just fine. 01:07 more

Brake Controller Installation - 2000 Chevy Silverado Part 3

And we can just tuck that out of our way and maybe zip-tie it later. The next part we have to do is run our power wires to the brake controller. The easiest way to do it, honestly, is to go straight to the battery. You do not have to worry about any unnecessary connections. That being said, battery terminals do corrode over time. That could end up losing the connection due to corrosion that way. That being said that batteries do corrode which can lead to problems connecting to the brake controller, another way, that is not recommended by the manufacturer but it could be done technically, you could come off of this post here which is supplied by a 30 amp fuse. And then what you could do is come off here, go to your 20 amp reset breaker, so there is still a fuse with the right amperage, and make your connections here for the positive. And you could run your connection all of the way up to, say like this battery here, has a connection to the frame or to the body. You could probably make your connection there. Because, sometimes you run into a situation where the connections are already corroded up and it is probably not in the best interest to go ahead and take them apart again and redo them because you might have a bigger headache that you are not prepared to deal with. You could probably do it that way. In this case, I think we will go ahead and use this battery here. This truck actually has two batteries set up. 1:09 more

Brake Controller Installation - 2000 Chevy Silverado Part 2 - Video

Brake Controller Installation - 2000 Chevy Silverado Part 2

The wires are ran from the rear to the front. However, they are pretty much out of reach. They are actually buried right down below the brake booster here. The blue and orange wires are kind of coiled up there. Basically, you have to climb on top of the engine, reach down and break them loose and pull them up. And even so, half of the time they are not long enough to work with. So you have to extend them, especially for the blue wire anyway. All right, the next thing that I am going to do, since we are here, is go ahead and hook up our hot lead. Basically, you can use either one of these posts. I believe these two fuses take care of the power going to these posts. And they fit in the little pocket there. They do not come with any nuts on here. So, you will have to go out and get you some metric 10 millimeter nuts to fit this stud. You will have to get this nut separate, from the hardware store. And it is an 8 millimeter nut in thickness and diameter. And the thread pitch is 1.25. 0:46 Put that on there for now. Next what we need to do is go underneath the dash and drill out a hole to get between the engine compartment and the dashboard. 0:55 more

Today on this 2000 Cadillac DeVille we will be installing part number 119176KIT. We are inside the trunk of the DeVille. We need to first gain access to the wires that we are going to need to tap into for our wiring harness. These wires are going to be located directly behind the driver side tail lights. First you need to start disassembling the trunk area so we can gain access to the wires. We need to remove the two set screws on the back of the tail light first. We will need to remove the same two on the passenger side as well. We are also going to remove the cover for the spare tire to give us a little more working room. Next we will remove the rear threshold piece here. With the four thumb screws removed we can just pry up on it to release the clips at the bottom side. Just set that off to the side for the time being. 00:48 more

Alright today, on this 2000 Mercedes C230, we are going to install part number 257229 from DaLan. First what we are going to do is get into the trunk area and we are going to have to move and remove some components. The reason why we are going to do this is to give us some better working room inside there because you do have to do some drilling. First off, we will take off the cover and then we are going to take out the spare tire. And the spare tire tools, we are going to remove those. And then there are some electrical components on the driver side. And then we are also going to loosen the battery and just scoot it off to the side. Alright, we have our template that comes with the instructions. And we are going to cut this template out and we are going to apply it to the bottom of the vehicle and that will show us where to mark and drill our first two holes. Alright, we will go ahead and use a punch to mark our holes and then we will go back through it with a drill. 00:49 more

Starting off with these two pieces right here, these are the adapter parts that go to your face plate that is mounted on your vehicle which allows you to connect this cross bar to the base plates and then to this cross bar the sterling all terrain tow bar mounts to it. Start with the brackets that are listed for the driver side and passenger side of a car. Today on this 2007 Dodge Durango we will be installing Curt hitch part number 13296. The first thing we want to do in preparation to installing our hitch is to remove the spare tire to get it out of our way. Looking at the driver side frame rail at the inboard side we have got two attach bolts here and one free bolt here on the forward side. We are going to need to remove the two here at the rear of the vehicle and the third one we are actually just going to remove the nut from the outboard side. We are going to reuse this bolt for our hitch installation and that will be the same for the passenger side as well. For the forward bolt we just want to push it through. You can see they will not fully come out because it is hitting on the body mount here. We want to push it back far enough to where the bolt sits about even with the flange here at the bottom side of the bumper bracket. At the two rear most attaching points we are going to be putting in new bolts along with the flat washer. We just want to slide those through just about the same position as the forward most fastener. 01:00 more

We are also going to need to go ahead and lower the exhaust. We just need to remove that off of the two rear most hangers and then the one at the forward side of the exhaust. To remove the hangers, we want to go ahead and spray down the studs with a spray lubricant, like a WD-40. And we will just take a pair of pliers and pry it right off there. Today we are going to show you part number TH515 from Thule. This is their Prologue bicycle rack. What it was designed to do is mount on top of your factory roof rack. We have got all of the like pieces set apart on our table here so we can get to them really easy to work with them all. Lets get started. The first step involved is working with some pre-assembly. We are going to work on the mounts that go to the cross bars. We are going to take this block which is going to snap around the bar. Take this little flat washer with the square hole in it. We are going to slide it in there. Then we will take a carriage bolt and it from the top down. Take this and just install it on our bar. Just slide it over the bar like so and make sure these bottom halves overlap. 01:00 more

Roadmaster Tow Bar Wiring Kit Installation - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Today on this 2006 Jeep Liberty we are going to install part number RM-154 from Roadmaster. What this does is allows us to wire up the vehicle so that it can be towed behind an RV. The first step is to route the wire from the front to rear and the wire harness comes with two truck ends on the wiring harness itself. We are just going to cut off one end of it, leave about a foot or so on there in case we need to use it again or in case the original one gets worn out. This 4-pole is going to stay at the front and basically you can think about it as like wiring up a utility trailer. This is going to stay in the front and the car is going to become a trailer at this point. We are going to run our wire between the plastic up in here towards the center as close as possible because in the future a face plate will get installed in that general area. Thread that on through until we come out the other side and we are going to route it all the way back and stay away from the suspension components and we are actually going to run it through the frame. 01:00 more

Next we will show you where the hitch mounts up on the frame. The hitch will mount to the bottom of the frame rail but there are no existing holes so we will have to drill out all the holes on this hitch. It will be identical on both sides. :26 more

Wiring Harness Installation- 2009 Toyota Highlander

Today we are going to be installing wiring harness 118449 on a 2009 Toyota Highlander. The first thing I want to note is once you take the harness out of the package you will have two individual pieces for the harness. The larger portion will be the harness and white plug modulite box that we are going to plug in under the dash on the left side of the brake pedal. The second part is actually going to plug in back in the rear cargo area on the right hand side underneath the paneling. We are going to hook up the larger portion first. Again we will be under the dash if you look under there just left of the brake pedal you can see a big ten pin white plug that we will plug this into. :49 more

Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Ford F-250 Diesel

Today, on this 2006 Ford F-250 Diesel, we will be installing Hide-a-Goose part number 9462-30. The first thing we want to do in preparation of installing our gooseneck assembly is go ahead and lower your exhaust down. Depending on your model year, this being a 2006, we just need to remove the rear most hanger here, but I actually want to take the whole bracket down off of the frame rail because we are going to be installing a new bracket piece to help lower the exhaust once the gooseneck is installed. There is just one bolt to the side of the frame we just want to set that off to the side because we will be reusing that bolt and flange nut assembly there. Now that we have the exhaust lowered, we can go ahead and slide our cross members into place. You do want to note that the two cross members that come with the installation kit are different. The front cross member has two extra holes here in the middle whereas the rear one does not. So, before we slide those into place we do want to install our carriage bolts into position because once we rails in place we will not be able to get the carriage bolts into place. We are going to be using 5/8 carriage bolts in these positions here. 1:05 more

Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 - Video

Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Dodge Ram 2500

Today on this 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 series, we will be installing the fifth wheel rails and brackets part number 50062-6008. A couple things that we want to do in preparation to getting started with our fifth wheel rail and bracket install we want to make sure we lower the spare tire down and get it out of our way. Make the install much easier. And then starting over here on the driver side frame rail, we want to go ahead and remove the factory wiring harness off of the frame rail, in the location in between. All right we are going to start off by setting up the rear rail in the bed. What we want to do is take and center this rail in between the weld seams in the bed itself. And then we want to take the measurement to determine the distance from the end of the bed to the backside of the rail. On a short bed model, six foot bed, we want it to be 26-5/16 inches. And with the rear rail appropriately centered in the bed, we can go ahead and mark out our holes that we are going to be using to attach to the frame bracket underneath. On this rear rail, we are going to be using the innermost holes on both sides for our install. You can either take and center punch these holes. Or I am going to be using just a Sharpie to mark out the holes and then we can drill them out from there. We also want to mark out the rear central hole in the rail as well. We are going to need to put a fastener here as well. With the holes marked, I am going to go ahead and remove the rail. And we want to take a 1/8 inch drill bit and go ahead and drill out the four outer holes. Okay, with those drilled out we want to go ahead and go back underneath the bed and take our rear frame bracket. Temporarily mounted on to the frame, just to check the hole alignment that we just drilled in the bed to make sure they match up with the frame brackets. 2:05 more

Wiring Harness Installation - 2006 Honda CR-V

Today on this 2006 Honda CR-V we will be installing wiring harness part number 118336. We are in the rear cargo area of the vehicle and the port that we are going to be plugging our harness into is located right behind here behind the rear threshold closer to the driver side. So we need to remove some pieces to gain access to that. Start by removing the carpeting here from the cargo area and also the rear cargo door. We want to remove the rear threshold piece here as well. We also need to remove the screws from the tie downs here and here. Take a flathead screwdriver or a rivet tool and just get that in there and kind of gently pry back to release the clips here on the interior. When you are trying to remove the interior panel here you actually need to pull out first because you need to release the sockets that are actually in to the metal on the interior. Get that out of there. 01:22 more

Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan Part 2 - Video

Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan Part 2

To get to the engine compartment, we are going to drill out a hole right here. Between this grommet and this smaller grommet up here, we are going to start off with a 1/ 4 inch and work our way up so we can start our bushing, which will end up right in there. Be careful of the wires right next door. Once you have your holes drilled out, you can go ahead and install your bushing of your choice. And at this point you can take the extra wire that you had and wire going out to the brake controller and wire going out to the connector you can run those through right now. We are going to run outside out blue wire going out to our trailer, our white wire is going to go to ground, and our black wire will eventually go to our power. To give yourself a good idea about how much wire to leave left over behind so you have enough to reach the brake controller when you install it and it is always a good idea to have a little left over on the inside, so we will push a little back in there towards the outside. And our red wire, we are going to leave that to connect up to coal side of the brake switch right here. As you can see here, we pulled the three wires to the outside here now. Just give you an extra note, we pulled these a little farther than we needed to, so what we are going to do is use some of this excess wire here so go back towards the fire wall so we will still have plenty of extra wire for the brake controller. First, we will start off with the white wire that was going out to the back to the trailer and to say it again this is going to go to the blue wire, so we are going to go ahead and just cut them even and we are going to connect these two together and we will not have to worry about that one circuit anymore. And to keep from getting confused it is always best to do one circuit at a time. So, now we have got the two wires going to the brake controller, power and ground. Now the extra wire that we had left over. All right, next what we are going to do is we are going to deal with the black wire right here. We are going to put a ring terminal on it and put it on its own circuit breaker right here. Right now would be a good idea to pull back the wire harness underneath the dash to make sure you have enough length just in case you might need to add some or not. We pulled it back into the cab and it looks like we have enough room to go directly into our circuit breaker and not have to add anything, but you can always use the extra wire to add length if you need it. A little bit longer. 2:27 more

Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan Part 1 - Video

Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan Part 1

Today, we are going to install part number 90185, the Prodigy brake controller from Tekonsha and we are going to install this on an 08 Dodge Grand Caravan. Also, on this install, we are going to be using part number ETBC-7 and also part number 118140 bracket kit. First, we are going to install the 18140 at the rear of the vehicle on the hitch. There is a hose clamp that holds it in place, basically. Kind of hold everything in place and just tighten it down. Now, we will install the bracket for the ETBC-7 kit and we will just put it on like so. Next, we will install the connector and it just goes into place like so. Put a couple of screws to hold it into place. Alright, at this point we will connect up to the preexisting 4-pole we already have. Next, we will put the existing 4-pole to the connector and before we do that we will put some dialectic grease in there keep it from corroding up over time. And we will put a zip tie around it make sure that it never comes apart. What we are going to do next is run our ground wire that will be the white with the ring terminal and then the purple wire is reverse light lead. In this instance we will not be hooking it up, that is because the trailer does not have any back up lights on it and also since this has to have a modulite for the wiring harness the reverse lights are not powered by the modulite, so it probably would not be a good idea to hook them up anyway. And then we will ground our ring terminal at the body panel near the pinch weld. Now, we will just go ahead and secure our wires to our other wires underneath the bumper. Next, what we need to do is go ahead and hook up our leads that go to the front of the vehicle. The blue will be going to the brake controller and the black will be going to the 12 volts basically straight to the battery going through a circuit breaker. We will just strip the ends off of the wire and we are going to go black to black for our 12 volt power supply and we are going to hook our white wire it is going to go to our blue wire. Just remember that the white wire is going to be going eventually back to the blue wire on the brake controller. We will go ahead and secure the wires with some tape, bind them up. Once you have them taped up secure, you can go ahead and install the loom assembly around it. It kind of slides onto the wire. You can also take the rest of your wires here and put it with it also. 2:33 more

Go ahead and locate three body mounting bolts that are located underneath the cab of the vehicle. You can see we have got one here to the front, one in the middle, and one towards the rear. We need to go ahead and remove the body mounting bolts out of these body mounts. And you will notice that maybe the rubber spacer might be coming out here with the bolt and that is okay. We will reinstall that once we put the brackets up. :40 more

Today, on this 2009 Chevy Silverado, we are going to be installing hitch part number 13322 from Curt. Okay, we are underneath the vehicle and the first thing that we want to do is go ahead and remove the spare tire and get it out of the way. Looking at the passenger side frame rail, you can see here at the end that we have an existing 14mm bolt that we are going to be removing. That will provide the rear most attachment point for the trailer hitch on both sides. And just forward of that we have an existing hole that will provide our forward most attaching point. And again that is going to be the same on both sides. We are going to be using the ½ carriage bolt and block assembly. Lay that up inside the frame and it down through the hole. Then here at the bumper we also have two existing weld nuts that are also going to provide stabilizing attaching points for the hitch. :46 more

Today, on this 2004 F-250 Super Duty, we will be installing the Bestop Bestrail overhead rack part number B42730-791. We are going to start by assembling the components of the overhead rack system. The first thing we are going to assemble is the legs to the front bracket both left and right. We are going to start with the front left bracket first. We are going to take one of the legs and you can see we have four existing holes here in the left bracket. You want to take one of the legs and you will notice that one end has a flat edge to it, the other end is actually angled. We want the angled side to be down here attaching to the bracket and we want the lower edge in towards the bottom of the bracket here where it will flare up towards the inside of the truck bed here. What we want to do is just align the holes here in the leg with the holes in the bracket. Over here on the side holes we are going to be using the 1/4-20 by 3 1/4 inch flat head screws along with a flat washer and nut. On the inboard side holes, we are going to be using the 1/4-20 by 2 ¼ inch screws along with a flat washer and nut. The connectors that we are looking for are located directly behind the tail light assembly on both sides of the vehicle. So we need to go ahead and first remove the tail lights from both sides of the vehicle. To do so you will see that there are three Phillips head screws here on the inboard side, we just need to remove those. There are a couple of friction clips here on the outboard side of the tail light so once you have the screws removed you want to take and gently rock it back and forth until those release. You can see here on the back of the tail light here at the bottom is our connection point for our wiring harness. To release that we just want to press the little tab at the top here and pull away like so. I am going to set the tail light off to the side for a moment. 00:50 more
