All you have to do is get to the inside panel and get to the connector. Basically we have to take out this panel, and this panel to get the spare tire well and we can find our panel that way. Once you get to the spare tire well you should see this connector wrapped in blue tape. Your T-connector will plug right in to that and well go ahead and make a permanent mounting. We can route this back here and make sure you have enough wire coming out. After that go ahead and stick it down with the adhesive.
When you dont need it, it can sit with the spare tire, when it is needed go ahead and pull it out. When you shut your hatch on it this door seal will give plenty of room for the wire to do its thing even if it needs to go in and out. Its still nice and loose and it wont get pinched when its hanging out the door.
Today on our 2003 Subaru Forester we're going to install the Hopkins 4-Pole Wiring Kit, part number 33855. First we'll need to access the rear cargo area. Then we're going to open up the access to the spare tire. Alright, next on the passenger's side we're going to go ahead and remove the spare tire tools and there's a fastener here to remove this panel. This exposes us to the rear trailer connector that we're looking for. So this application is being wrapped in blue tape.

We are at the rear of the vehicle and the port that we are going to need to plug our wiring harness into is located inside the cargo area underneath the floor board over here on the driver side of the vehicle. We are going to need to remove quite a few pieces to gain access to the port. The driver side styrofoam has a few retaining fasteners holding it in to position. To remove those you can either use a flat headed screwdriver or you could use a rivet removal tool. 00:33
