Installation of a Trailer Wiring Harness for a Trailer on a 1999 through 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Today we are going to be installing a wiring harness 118369 which will fit 1999 to 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. We are inside the back hatch now of the Grand Cherokee. There are also going to be 3 screws we are going to have to remove to access the wiring harness. You need to remove this screw here on the threshold. Both of these screws are here for the cargo tie down. Both of which need to be removed also. With these 3 screws removed we want to go ahead and remove this whole interior panel here. Besides the screws there are push rivet fasteners that are all inside here and along the inside of the side pieces as well. So we need to gain access to the interiors so we need to pop this side off. Go ahead and remove the bottom cargo tray to give us a little more room to work.

We are going to take a long bladed screw driver or anything that can fit inside the side panel here to pop away the rivets. Once that one is done you can pretty much just pull away and listen to them click and pop out of there. With the interior panel pulled back here you can see the piece of rubber threshold here. You will want to go ahead and pull that on back. That will gain us access to the wiring harness which is right there with the green connector. We will take our T harness and they pop right in together. From there we want to go ahead and as you can see on the back of the modulite box here is some double sided tape. We want to go ahead and clean off the surface on the inside here. Next you can go ahead and remove the covering and tape it like so. They do provide a zip tie in the kit. What we have to do is route the 4 pole wiring along side the factory harness here.

Questions and Comments about this Video

where and how would you recommend routing the 4-way connector to a permanent connection plate outside vechicle say attached to the bumper?

You might be able to check and see if there is a grommet in the bottom of the spare tire area of your Jeep. If there is one available, then you could slice the grommet, then pass the 4-way through to secure to the mounting bracket. If you do slice this grommet make sure that you use something like the Locktite RTV598 High Performance Silicone Gasket Maker # LT37467 to seal the grommet up. I have included a link to a video that shows this exact process on a slightly different vehicle for your reference.
