Installation of a Wiring Harness on a 1998 GMC Jimmy

We are going to go ahead and install part number 18002. Which is the Draw Tight 4 pole flat onto this 1998 GMC Jimmy. Right now we are underneath the vehicle. We have already put the hitch on here. As far as the wiring goes about 90 percent of the Chevy Blazers and GMC Jimmys have the tow package on them. It is that bundle of wires that attached to the backside of the bumper with zip tie. Those are all the wires we are going to need to attach the 4 pole too. So what we are going to do is go ahead and clip the zip tie here. Then release these wires and as you can see they give you a substantial amount of lead. Again the 4 pole flat connector we will be using is made by Draw Tight and is part number 18002.

In the the packaging as of the 18002 they provide 4 scotch locks for you to use along with a 60 inch harness. I am going to go ahead and peel back the tape here at the end of the tow package. You need to cut back about 6 to 8 inches to fully access all the wires in here. As you can see here we got a light green, yellow, dark green, light blue, and a brown. Then taped off to the side is a white wire which will be our ground. Now that we have all the wires pulled out of the tow package. You can see that they will coincide with the other wires on the 4 pole harness that we are installing. Yellow to yellow, dark green to dark green, brown to brown, and white to white.

To connect the wires together we can use the provided scotch locks that they recommend. But we are going to use butt connectors. They seem to work a little bit better. Now that the connections are made we are going to go ahead and tape them back up. If you are wondering about the extra wires, light blue is a third brake light. Then the light green wire is actually reverse. You can use those with a 6 or 7 pole connector but since we are using a 4 pole connector so those will not be used. Now the only thing left to do is secure the extra wires all back up into place. Going to use standard zip ties. On this Jimmy we are going to install this 4 pole bracket which is part number 18144. Typically you would clamp a longer bracket on the hitch then attach the bracket to it. On this 1998 GMC Jimmy they have a nice underside of the bumper which we can drill some self tapping screws into. Which will allow for a good point to mount the bracket. After the bracket is attached you will want to route the plug whichever position you want to route it. There are 2 ridges in these Draw Tight plugs and thats what is going to keep it secure in the bracket. Once the plug is securely placed in the bracket you can fasten up the rest excess wire up behind the bumper. That will complete the installation of part number 18002 Draw Tight 4-Pole flat onto this 1998 GMC Jimmy.
