Today on this 2008 Kia Sportage we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118401. This wiring harness is very easy to use. It is a simple plug in and there is an open ended port on the Sportage that our harness is going to plug into. If we go underneath the vehicle right near the bumper over on the passenger side you can see we have got our wiring harness with two plugs at the end of it here. The one taped on the top is the one we are looking for. This is the one we are going to be plugging our wiring harness into. Cut back the tape that is holding the two together. This does have a cap on it so remove that. There is a tab on top that if you press that in, you can pull the cap right off. 00:45
We will next take our wiring harness and just plug it in line. Plug it in until you hear it snap. You can see also on the wiring harness we have got a loose white wire with a ring terminal and this is our ground wire. We are going to need to ground this directly to the frame and we are going to be doing that using the provided self tapping screw. With that secure we just want to take the converter box that is built into the harness. On the back side we have got some double sided tape and we want to adhere that to the frame. Keep it up and out of the way. I am going to do it to the side of the frame and it is a good idea to clean that area off before we attempt to adhere the box to it. 01:29
From there we can just take the 4-pole in to the harness. We are going to route that towards the middle of the vehicle and next we want to take the 4-pole end of the harness and route it towards the center of the vehicle. We do want to be careful around the exhaust system. You want to secure the wiring up and out of the way so it does not come in contact with the exhaust because this could melt and possibly damage the wire. Actually on this installation I am going to be using a loom clamp right up against the bottom of the frame, to further help keep the 4-pole wires away from the exhaust system. From there all we need to do is use the provided zip ties that come with the wiring kit and tie up any of the extra wire that you may have. With the wires tied up out of the way our installation is complete. That will conclude the installation of wiring harness part number 118401 on a 2008 Kia Sportage.
