Installation of a Wiring Harness on a 2005 Ford Mustang

What we have here is a 4 pole flat car end, 16 inches long and includes 4 wiring caps. This is going to be installed on a 2005 Ford Mustang. We need to get the access to the wiring. So the first thing we need to do is take out this bottom tray or carpeting here. You have to take off this back panel here to get access to the wiring. Once that is out of the way we can start taking these fasteners off this back panel here and then take it off to get to the wiring. This is the wiring harness that is actually going to the tail light lens. So what we need to do is strip away our wires here so we can figure out which wire is our turn signal or running light. Since we have to hardwire this, we have to test to see what wire does what. So basically we will just use our ground tester to the existing ground on the body.

We have our tester grounded so we will go ahead and probe the wires to figure out what does what. What you can do also is, while you can see the wires that are running to the connection here, instead of piercing the wire we can touch the little connects from there from the backside. So we can see what wire does what. That way you only have to pierce the wire that you need to use. Yellow will be our left turn so we will tap off of it, squeeze it with a pair of pliers, and give it a pull to make sure it is connected. You can also double check to make sure you have a connection at the 4 pole end by testing it on the end of a 4 pole. Now do the same thing for the running light circuit too. Next we turn on our running light circuit and we will test to see which one does that. Looks like one of them is blue and just to double check ourselves we will turn it back off. That is defiantly the running light circuit so we know that is the circuit to use for the running lights. That will go to our brown wire. We will make the connection again. Then we will double check our circuit and connect the 4 pole. We are good there. Now while we are over here we will go ahead and run the ground wire. That is the white wire here and we will use the factory ground in the body here.

Install the ring terminal and go ahead and reinstall the bolt. The last thing that remains here is the right turn signal. There are a couple of different ways you can go about that. You can split this wire and go on across and make your connection. Or you could simply make this wire a little bit longer and go over to the right hand side. That way you can keep some of your length on here. Then we will go ahead and turn on our right turn signal. Again prob to see which one is what. On the right turn it looks like red with the white stripe. We will go ahead and peel off the green wire and work our way across. Again we will verify our connection. Green should be our right turn. It is, so double check to make sure you have brake lights. Go ahead and turn on the brake lights. The green should be constantly on and the yellow should be constantly on. The next thing we need to do is test our ground on the 4 pole itself. So we will take our tester and put that on the ground.

We will just go through the functions one more time. It looks like we have the running lights on already. Then we will try the turn signals again. Electrically, the install is complete. All that remains now is to go ahead and tape up the wires and secure them and we will be good to go. As you can see we zip tied the wiring to the body. We also added the loom clamp to keep it in place also. At this point we can re install our carpeting and trim panel. Alright once you have the trim panel back installed, the proper use of this product is shown here. You simply pull it out and keep it away form the center latch and close your trunk on it. The door seal on it will give way for plenty of room for wire. It will not get smashed or anything. Since it is not staying out all the time it will not get corroded like they do on a pick up truck or van. There you have it for part number 118002 from Tow Ready.
