Installation of a Wiring Harness on a 2003 Saturn Vue

Today on this 2003 Saturn Vue we will be installing the converter part number 119130. The harness we are going to be installing is a hardwire harness. So we are going to need to access the wires behind the tail light assemblies in order to hardwire it in. To gain access to those we need to take the tail lights themselves off and to do that we have two screws here on the inboard side that we need to remove. That should allow us to get our tail light off.

Okay with the tail light removed you can see we have got the wires here that we will be needing to connect to. Just going to cut back the tape a little bit. Okay and with our wires pulled out here we can go ahead and testing for our functions. Over here on the drivers side on our harness we are going to need to test for are going to be the brake light, the left turn, and the running light. We are going to start by testing for the left-turn function here. And that appears to be the yellow wire. Next we will test for the running light function, and that looks like it is going to be the brown wire. And then last we are going to test for that brakes, which looks to be the blue wire. So we can go ahead and take our harness now and make those connections to those wires.

To make our connections we are going to be using scotch locks here, one of the wires we are looking at here is for the drivers side. I have the red that is going to be connected to the blue wire which is our brake feed. Yellow will actually connect to the yellow wire as our left turn signal. The brown will be connected to the brown for the running lights. And we also have a white wire here with a ring terminal on it, that is our ground wire. You want to find a substantial metal point here to actually take a self tapping screw and ground it. Okay then next we are going to take the 4-pull end of our connector as well as the green wire. We are going to feed those through the opening here in between the body and the bumper. And then finally I am going to take the converter box here and you can see on the back side I have some double sided tape. I am going to go ahead and adhere that right in between the opening here, I am going to go ahead and adhere it to the inside of the body structure there.

Okay then we are just going to want to tape up our connections here and then put our tail light assembly back on and go underneath the vehicle where we can continue routing our wire. Now that we are underneath the vehicle we can go ahead and route my wires across. As you can see we have got some straps holding the fascia to the bottom of the bumper here. That is going to provide a good point for us to route the wires behind and that should help keep them from keeping pinched as well as avoiding our hot point like our exhaust right here. And the 4-pull I am just going to stop here at the center of the vehicle, and we can tie that off and the green wire will continue to route across.

What we are going to run into is that our green wire is not quiet long enough to reach all the way up to our passenger side tail light. So we are going to need to go ahead and extend this wire. Now we will go up to the passenger-side tail light and test for our right turn wire. Through testing we found it is actually the dark green wire here which is our right-turn signal, the same color that we are using here. And I am going to just shorten the length of my wire and make our connection. All right go ahead and tape that up as well. And we will just go ahead and put our tail light back on. And you might want to just take another look below to make sure we do not have any extra wires hanging down loose. Then our installation will be complete. This will conclude the installation of wiring harness part number 119130 on a 2003 Saturn Vue.
