Installation of a Wiring Harness on a 2002 Acura RSX

Today we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 119175 from Cequent on a 2002 Acura RSX. OK, we are inside the trunk area now, and I have gone ahead and removed the spare tire to gain a little bit more room to work with here. But the wires that we are going to need to be tapping into are located directly behind the tail light assembly here on the inboard. And you can actually see there is a little bit of a cover here that we can actually take and pull back, and that will give us full access here to the wires that we need to tap into. I am also going to need to remove this middle threshold piece as well. This particular model actually has a factory plug on it that is specific for the tow package. There is a little plug right here. What we can actually do is test each one of the functions that are in there. And we will hardwire directly into it.

As you can see on our wiring harness here, we have got give wires that we are going to need to connect. The green wire is our right-turn function. The white wire is a ground. The brown wire is the running-light feed. The yellow wire is the left-turn signal, and the red wire is our brake signal. What we want to do is go ahead and find out which functions coincide on our plug here. I am just going to use a basic test probe and run through the functions real quick. For the left turn, it looks like we have got the green wire with the red stripe. For the right-turn function, it looks like we have got the green wire with the yellow stripe. The brakes appear to be the white wire with the black stripe. And then the running lights look to be the red wire with the yellow stripe on it. You can either use Scotch locks and just Scotch lock directly into each one of these wires, or you could do what I am going to do, which is just cut off the end here and just use butt connectors, and butt connect your wires directly together. And then we want to go ahead and, I am just going to use a self-tapping screw and connect the ground wire directly with the metal here.

OK, with the ground wire secure, I am going to go ahead and tape up our connections. You want to make sure you go ahead and secure our converter box. As you can see, on the back side we have got double-sided tape here. We want to find a nice, clean location somewhere on the metal behind the carpeting here. And go ahead and tape the harness up there. I am going to go ahead and pull my harness out this way and just take a couple of cable ties and secure all of my loose wires up, and then go ahead and put all of my components back together. And this will conclude the installation of wiring harness part number 119175 on a 2002 Acura RSX.
