Installation of a Wiring Harness on a 2001 Subaru Forester
Today we are going to install part number 118461 from Tow Ready, and we are going to install this part on a 2001 Subaru Forester. The connection points are inside the vehicle, in the rear, so we have to get inside the rear hatch and start pulling up the floor panels. Our connection point happens to be right here, underneath the threshold on the passengers side. You just pull it out. It has got the blue tape on it. And our T-connector will simply just snap in place, like so. And all that remains is to go ahead and attach the Modulite to the back of the sheet metal here. You can put it just any place you want but it seems pretty convenient and out of the way right here. And we can zip-tie our wires to the existing wire package here, and they will be safe and out of the way. Now we did not really have to take out the spare tire, but it gives you a better idea of what is going on.
Now the rest of the wire here you can actually store in the trunk area or in the spare tire area. And when you need to use it, pull it out of the vehicle and you can shut the hatch on it. This door seal will give it plenty of room to not get pinched. However, there is an alternate way of doing it, too. We found this rubber plug right here this goes to the outside. What you could do is actually put a slit to one side and make another slit, like a cross in there, and then you can actually slip your wire harness in there and run it out to the hitch if you want a permanent install outside. All you have got to do is just pull out what you need, and you can go ahead and shut the door hatch on it, and you are ready to go pull your trailer. And that covers it for our install of part number 118461 from Tow Ready on our 2001 Subaru Forester.
