Today were going to review part number Y04030 Yakima. This is a LandShark Kayak Carrier. Were gonna do a review on a 2012 Toyota Forerunner. One thing with this vehicle is that its already been equipped with a Yakima Roof Rack system using the round bars. Well go ahead and start off with our review. Well go ahead and take the Mighty Mounts and attach them to the crossbars.
Were gonna need 8 of these so that will 4 on each crossbars and they just simply snap into place. Now well line this up with the saddles and install the hardware for that. There are screws that go down on the center and into the Mighty Mount. The Mighty Mounts can be used on square or round bars. In this application, well be using the Yakimas round bars.
We got our first one done and well go ahead and install the remaining three. And the hardware does use easy to use wing nuts. And the saddles on the LandShark can be rotated left or right on the bar to accommodate different shapes of hulls. Alright! Now we've got all three loosely installed, lets go ahead and take our kayak and put it into place. Well take the kayak and center it on the saddles.
Then well go ahead and adjust our saddles from left to right to make sure we have a secure fit with the bottom of the kayak. And if needed, these saddles can rotate left to right to match the hull. And also, when you tie down your boat, these saddles will flex to accommodate the shape of the hulls as well. And for this application well be using part number Y04057, this is Yakimas Boat Strap Kit. Once you have the Kayak tied down to the saddle, they will deform to provide a closer fit to the hull.
With our kayak tied down, so we can go ahead and add some bow and stern straps. We take our strap with the buckle and the loop and well wrap it around our carrier strap, like so, which is what you can do when you have some hard point on your boat. Well take our second straps, and this is the one that has the protective liner to it. This will go down towards the bottom in case this has to go up against something painted on your vehicle. well take our other end and well just start it in our buckle. Now well take our hook that will go right to the loop and strap and this can go straight down to any point in your car. In this case, were gonna actually go right through the hitch. Well just go ahead and take up our slack and you can move this protection part up and down as needed. Our stern is done. Well go up to the bow and repeat the same process.With our kaya fully tied down and secured, that will finish it for our review of the Yakima LandShark Kayak Carrier part Y04030. .
