Today we are going to show you the Thule K-Summit self-adjusting snow tire chains, part number TH02230K34. Included with the case of the chains is a durable, attractive storage bag so that you can keep your chains in your vehicle. Also included are a few set of instructions and a tool kit that provides all of the parts and tools needed to attach the K-Summit chains on a variety of lug sizes. There is also a package of repair links if you need to make a road side repair on your chains, as well as a pair of plastic gloves to help keep your hands clean when installing your chains. The Thule K-Summit chains are designed for use on vehicles with large diameter rims and narrow profile tires. The K-Summits attach to the face of the wheel, eliminating any need to run any cables or chains behind the tire. They also feature minimal contact with the rim to prevent damaging expensive finishes. They also attach to one of the lug nuts on the wheels and automatically adjust and tension as you drive. The chains feature dual-sided, D-shaped links made out of alloy steel to provide solid traction. 1:02
This particular model, the K34 is designed to fit a variety of 15 to 22 inch size wheels. For a specific fit list, see the product page. The Thule K-Summit chains are covered by a one year warranty. Depending on your tire size, you may need to adjust the chains before you install them. Since we are going to be installing these chains on a 215/60R16 tire, we need to remove one of our yellow expanders. We are going to use the included Allan key and open-end closed-end wrench to remove the part. Removing this will allow the chain to straighten out and expand just enough to accommodate our particular tire size. Remember to check the instructions to find your tire size to see how many you need to remove. Before we install the chains, we also need to make sure that our lug caps and our spacers will fit our wheel properly. With this set up, our cap will not fit over our lug nuts all of the way and the spacer would have us protruding too far from the wheel well. So, we need a shorter spacer and a larger lug cap to fit our particular wheel and lug. We have a larger lug cap that fits over the wheel properly. We have the sleeve for that particular cap. And we are going with the shorter spacer. In addition to the shorter spacer, we will also need to swap out for a shorter bolt. 2:19
We will our bolt in, flip our spacer over and give it a quick test fit. We are seated on our lug properly and we are at a good height for our wheel. So we are going to swap the other chain out with the right spacer and a larger cap. Then we will be ready to install our chains. To install the chains, first we are going to fit as much of them over the tire as possible. Once we have the chains stretched over the tire, we can go ahead and attach our lug anchor point. Make sure your red triangle is pointing towards the center of the wheel and use the included wrench to tighten it down. Once our lug anchor is attached, we can go ahead and ratchet down the chains. It does not matter that we do not have the chains all of the way around the tire. They will pull on as we start to drive. And there you have it for the Thule K-Summit size K34 snow tire chains, part number TH02230K34.
