Review of the Thule 56 Liter Crossover Rolling Duffel Bag

Today we are going to show you the Thule Crossover 56 Liter rolling duffel bag part number THTCRD-1. The Thule Crossover rolling duffels are also available in a two piece set with the 56 Liter bag and an 87 Liter bag. The part for the set is part number THTCRD-12N. The Thule Crossover rolling duffel has a large 56 Liter total capacity. On the top of the bag is a removable crushproof safe zone made of a heat molded polypropylene shell. The inside of this shell is padded and lined and makes a perfect place for storing small electronics like cell phones or MP3 players or other small fragile items that you want to keep protected. There are compression cinch straps on the bag that will help you keep the bag nice and snug and keep things compact. On the top of the bag is a traditional duffel style handle system and top opening door. However, there is also a zipper that goes around the entire width of the bag that will allow you to open it up like a clam shell for loading large items. 00:58

On the top and bottom of the bag are Thules quick grab-and-go handles. These handles make a great way to grab the bag real quick when you are on your way out the door or even a place to hang it from. On the bottom are the aluminum feet that will hold the bag upright. The aluminum feet will also hold up better than traditional plastic feet. Thule uses larger and wider rollers on the bottom of their bag. These larger heavy duty rollers will help the bag from tipping over when you go over bumps or cracks. On the bottom of the duffel is Thules patented V-Tubing telescoping aluminum handle. This different shape provides extra structure and rigidity to help keep the bag from twisting. The bottom of the duffel also uses more of the same heat molded polypropylene material that creates sort of a shell or base for the bag. As with all Thule Crossover bags this duffel includes a 25 year limited warranty. Now that we have gone over all of the features we will give you a first hand look at the bag. 01:51

On the top you will find the traditional duffel bag style handles. Thule has reinforced the handle part to make it a little bit more durable as well as the reinforcing ribbon that also doubles as a cinching strap along the entire length of the strap. These are the die-stamped aluminum buckles that we were talking about. These buckles help you adjust the cinching straps to keep the bag nice and compact. Again they are made out of aluminum versus the traditional plastic so these are going to hold up a lot better. Again on the top side is the Thule crushproof safe zone. The shell is removable. The hard shell is going to help keep small fragile items protected. The inside of the shell is lined and padded and makes a perfect place to store small electronics like cell phones, MP3 players. At the top and the bottom of the bag are the Thule quick grab-and-go handles. These handles are nice and sturdy and they are going to make a great way for you to grab the bag when you are running your way out the door. On the top is a zippered access door to the main compartment and here you can see the mesh lining that will help keep clean and dirty items separate. As you can see there is plenty of space for putting all of your belongings that you have got to take with you. Inside here is the back of the crushproof safe zone. If you need the extra space and do not need the safe zone you can pop that out and it will open up some more space for you. 03:04

One of the unique features to the bag is the clam shell feature. Around the bottom of the bag is a zipper that goes all the way around the bag. The bottom of the bag again is Thules hard shell material and you can open the entire bag up like a clam shell. Here is the underside to the mesh lining and again this is how you can keep clean and dirty items separate. Like many pieces of luggage, Thule includes these adjustable cinching straps on the inside to help you keep things compact and snugged down. We are going to take advantage of the hard shell to protect our laptop and we are going to use these straps to help keep it snugged down and help keep it from moving around. Again the mesh lining is going to keep things separate and the hard shell is going to keep the items on the bottom protected. At the bottom of the bag are the aluminum foot pegs. These foot pegs are normally made out of plastic but Thule has used aluminum on these bags. They should hold up and be a little bit more durable. On the bottom you can see the rollers. Again these rollers are larger than traditional rollers that are usually about the size of a roller blade wheel. These larger wheels are going to be better when going over bumps and cracks and they are going to help keep you from tipping the bag over. On the bottom side you will see the Thule patented V-Tube aluminum handle. This telescoping aluminum handle is pretty rigid. It is made out of a V-Tube design which is a little different than traditional rolling luggage design. The different design provides more structure and it will help keep the bag from twisting while you are rolling it. Again, the bottom is made out of Thules hard shell to provide a little bit of rigidity in the bag and some protection for the contents. There you have it for the Thule Crossover rolling duffel part number THTCRD-1.
