Alright today on this 2011 Volkswagen Touareg, were going to do a test fit of a Yakima roof rack system. Well be using 48 inch round bars and rail grab towers. Now we have them already preassembled according to instructions but we left them loose for our final adjustments. So well go ahead and put our first role on the factory roof rack. Now position of these rails will be determined by the accessories that you put on top of the roof rack and also by any limitations there are on the factory roof rack system. So lets check the owners manual to make sure.
To keep them square measure up a known point on the roof rack to the leading edge of the tower. Ok were going to take a moment to make sure that the crossbar is even on both sides left to right. Once were happy with the placement, well go ahead and tighten down the tower to the factory roof rack and then the crossbar to the tower. The black bolt will tighten down the tower to the roof rack and then the silver bolt will tighten down the tower to the crossbar. Well go ahead and install our second crossbar just like the first one however well measure up the centers of the first crossbar to the second crossbar to make sure everything is square.
Alright a few steps our roof rack is already stalled and Ill give you one more measurement that gives you an idea of how much height it adds to the top of a car. From the top of a factory roof rack to the top of the crossbar is going to be 2 and inches. With that, it will finish it for our test fit of the Yakima roof rack system on our 2011 Volkswagen Touareg.
