Today on this 2005 Toyota Sienna were going to be test fitting a Yakima Railgrab Roof Rack System. We already have our crossbar assemblies put together, so now were ready to mount them up on the vehicle. Since this system is designed to be used on vehicles with factory raised side rails, theres no specific crossbar spread we need to use. However, the maximum that Yakima recommends is 56 inches, so we want to make sure that we dont exceed this measurement. You also want to check the instructions in the accessories youll be using to see fit they require a specific crossbar spread and set up accordingly. The first thing well do is place the front crossbar assembly on top of our factory raised siderails.
We need to make sure its running perpendicular to our side rails so were going to measure the seam at the end of our siderails to the edge of Railgrab tires, and make sure this measurement is even on both sides of the vehicle. Now well check the overhang to make sure the crossbars are hanging evenly on both sides of the vehicle. Once weve done that were ready to tighten the system down. The black bolt on the bottom is what tightens the claw and the Railgrab tower to our factor raised side rails. Well move back and forth tightening the black bolt on both sides of the vehicle.
After that well tighten the silver bold towards the top of the tower and this will lock our crossbars into the towers. Once we have the front crossbar assembly tightened down we can go ahead and mount our rear crossbar assembly. We need to make sure that the rear crossbar runs parallel to the front crossbar. Well measure from the center of the front bar to the center of the rear bar and make sure that this measurement is even on both sides. Well also check to make again that our bars overhanging evenly on both the passenger and drivers side.
Once weve done that well use the same tightening procedure that we used in the front. Weve added some height to our vehicle so next well measure so you can calculate for the new height clearance. From the top of our siderails to the top of the new crossbars weve added about two and a quarter inches of height. That does it for the test fit of the Yakima Railgrab roof rack system on our 2005 Toyota Siena with factory raised siderails.
