Pontiac G6 Roof Rack

Installation of a Yakima Q Tower Roof Rack on a 2009 Pontiac G6

Today, we have a 2009 Pontiac G6. Were going to be installing a Yakima roof 4X system. We have our Yakima Q towers over here. Thats part number Y00124, weve got a pair of Yakima Q128 clips, thats part number Y00728 and weve got a pair of 58 inches bars part number Y00409. Before we get ready to install the rack, we need to go ahead and put it together, so we are going to take a pair of our Q towers. were going to add our stickers to the inside, so that we need to remove the roof rack later and put it back on, inaudible to the front and we check goes to the rear that we dont have to disassemble it and reassemble it every time, so we are going to start with our front cross bar.

Before you start assemble your Q towers we need to take our inaudible pads and we are going to put them on the inside of our Q clip. This is just going to provide some extra protection from the clip against damaging your vehicle. Well go ahead and repeat this procedure for all four of our two clips. Once weve done that, were ready to start assembling your Q towers. To assemble our Q towers, well take one of the towers, one of our Q clips, one of the core holders and finally one of the retaining clips.

Well fly the Q clip in the place, push the core holder through from the back and snap out with the retaining clip. Now, you can replace these core holders with a Yakima SKS lock cores. After weve done that, well go ahead and put the back cover and install the rubber pad on the bottom of the tower. Through over pad just push it into place. With that tower done, were going to get ahead repeat the same procedure for the other towers.

Now, we have all of our towers assembled, well go ahead and begin trimming to our crossbars. Were going to open up the latch and open up this door on the side of our Q tower. Thats going to allow its access to this fold here that is used to tie the Q tower to the bar. Well take our included inaudible key and unlock the tower. Screw release this clip here inside that well use to clip down our crossbars once we start assembling it.

So take your tower and slide over the end of the crossbar. Then well slip the other tower over the other side. Now, were ready to set our crossbar spin. Thats the distance between one Q tower and the other. Well get to crossbar spin pretty close and well take one of our Q towers and tighten it down. Well measure from our fixed Q tower to the last loose one making final adjustments and then tighten it down. Now, well go ahead and install our inaudible. Well just going to push in the place on the end of our tube. The assembly of the rear bar is going to work much the same, but our crossbar spin needs to be a bit different. We need it to be 40 and 38 inches for the rear bar. With our crossbars somewhat put together, we are ready to mount it on top of our vehicle. The first thing we need to do is open the doors in the front an on both passenger and drivers side. Next, when we set our front crossbar up in the place on the roof. Now we need to position our front crossbar assembly. Well measure 8 inches from the edge of the windshield to the leading edge of the Q tower to position our front bar properly. We also need to make sure that our crossbar is center from left to right. Well, look pretty good, so now we are ready to go ahead and tighten down and secure our front crossbars assembly. We want to make sure that our Q clip fits against the edge of our door frame like it should. Well start to close down the door. Youll want some firm resistance but you dont want to have force it down. Were a little tight on this side, and so well going to take the adjustment screw and back it off some. Now, well go on to the other side and secure the Q tower there, and then our front crossbar is in place. Now were ready to move on to the rear. To install our bar on the rear, again, were going to need open both driver and passenger side doors, and take our rear bar assembly and place it up on top of the roof. We need to measure instead our crossbar spread. Thats from the center of the front bar to the center of the rear bar. On our G6, we need it to be 24 inches. This measurement is also important when you go to select accessories to use with your roof rack. Keep that in mind when you are looking for roof basket, roof box or bike carrier, and now were ready to tighten down and secure our rear crossbar, and thats it for our installation of the Yakima round crossbar roof rack on our 2009 Pontiac G6.
