Today, on our 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, were going to be test fitting the Yakima HighLite aluminum hitch-mounted bike carrier, part number Y02438. To fit the carrier to our vehicle, well insert the shank into the receiver tube of our hitch. Well line up the pin holes and then use the hand knob to tighten the anti-rattle device. Then, well take our security pin and push it through our hitch into the bike rack. Next, well check for rear vehicle access. Well use the pull pin at the base of the bike rack to tilt it down so that we can open the cargo door of our Grand Cherokee and make sure we can still access the cargo area.
Now that weve done that, well tilt the bike rack back up and go over some clearance measurements. We have about 3-3/4 inches clearance between the closest part of our bike rack and the closest part of our vehicle. Weve got about 12-1/2 inches of ground clearance. Well pull the release latch at the top of the bike rack and fold the arms out. Well undo the rubber straps at the cradles closest to the vehicle.
