Installation of Westin Tube Steps on a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Today we are going to show you part number 26-3125 from Westin automotive products. What we are going to install are some tube steps on a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser. This install will be an relatively easy one to do. There are already threaded bolt holes in the frame which is really nice from the factory. So basically all it is when you hold up the bracket install the bolts and then tighten them down it will be pretty simple. We will do that on 4 points of the vehicle. We will do this here, make sure you do not mess with this cable here for the parking brake. The bracket actually goes around it. So it is pretty hard to mess that up. You have this bracket, and when going towards the front of your vehicle, you will see 2 more threaded holes up by the body mount here. Again it mounts in the very same way it just bolts on. It is identical to this on the driver side also. Before we can begin our install it would be a good idea to run the bolts in and out of the hole a few times. To make sure there is no dirt or junk that would mess up the threads. So it is a good idea to just go ahead and run them in a little bit. We got about 2 threads in and it stopped already.

Now I will try the top one. They look pretty clean so I am pretty sure it is just thick paint. The top one is about the same. So what you will want to do is take your tool and run it in a little bit. Then back them off. Better do that a couple times, until you get far enough to clean out the nut. One thing to note about these brackets is all 4 of them are the same. So on one side of them the tabs are pointing to the front of the vehicle. Then on the passenger side the tabs are pointed towards the back. So there is no real right of left to them. We will go ahead and move to the front and do the same thing again. As you can see here we need them a little bit loose so we can move them back and forth there is a little slot in there. We will just snug them up. Alright, we will go ahead and install some tube steps and get a feel for how they fit. The tube step already has some threaded holes in them so that is nice. So we will go ahead and just install some hardware. Again we will go ahead and just snug stuff up and keep it loose so we can make some adjustments.

Now we have our tube step temporarily installed. This is where you can put some personal input in on it. You can push it forwards or backwards by adjusting this to suit the way you want it distanced from here, the tube step, and the fender itself. Personally we like to have it at least a fingers full away just in case of vibration or anything and so they do not rub on each other. Then we are going to back these plates up all the way to the rear of the vehicle and check our spacing. At this point we can go ahead and tighten down our brackets and hardware. Now we will go ahead and snug down our bolts. Next we will tighten down the tube steps to the brackets. You actually have some leeway on the way that you want to position them. So if you want them at a little bit of an angle that is fine. But I am going to put them perfectly flat as possible then tighten them down. It is good and solid and you can actually shake the vehicle with it. Once you have the one side done, you can go over and repeat everything again on the other side of the vehicle. And there you have it for part number 26-3125 from Westin Automotive Products.
