Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2007 Volkwagen Jetta

Today on our 2007 Volkswagen Jetta, we'll be installing the tow-ready T One vehicle wiring harness with 4-pole connector, part number 118531. To begin our install, we'll first go ahead and open up the rear cargo door. Then we'll remove the spare tire cover and rear threshold. On this application, the rear threshold is missing some of the fasteners to secure it, so we can just go ahead and pull up on it, releasing the fasteners from underneath. Then we'll set aside and move to the rear quarter panels, where we'll need to remove the rear carpeting to gain access to the rear taillight wiring. By opening the access door, we can see that the wiring is behind the taillight, so now we'll go ahead and remove the fasteners.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Today on this 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, we're going to install part number 118531 from Tow Ready. The first step is to go ahead and remove the floor coverings. We'll also remove the threshold at the back. Next, we'll loosen these attachment points to get to the tail lights on both sides. Now, we can install the wire harness. On the driver's side, we'll install the T-connector in with the yellow wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and we can go ahead and lock it into place.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

Today on this 2008 Volkswagen Jetta we are going to install part number 119176 from Tow Ready. This is a wire harness that is hard wired into the vehicle and has a lead that is run up to the battery, so it does get powered by the vehicles battery itself. So first things first, go ahead and open up the trunk. First step involved, go ahead and take out the bottom panel and the threshold here. There are two screws I have to take out of the bottom of this. Now that we have all the interior paneling off we can see all the wiring in its entirety. You can see where some wires go up to the drivers side tail light, and also you can see wires go to the passenger side tail light. :52

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Today we are going to be installing the 4-pole converter, part number 119175 on a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta. Okay we are inside the trunk area and I have already removed the bottom portion of the trunk well area and the rear threshold piece. The wires that we are going to need to access are going to be directly behind the tail lights. And there is actually a door here, if you open this up and fold this down you can open this door and you can see the main wiring harness for the tail light is right here at the bottom. So you can actually follow that down and test those wires.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

Today we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 119175 on a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta. OK, we are in the trunk now, and we are going to go ahead and locate the wires that we are going to be tapping into for the wiring harness. I went ahead and removed the bottom carpeting pieces to give me a little bit more room to work. Over here on the drivers side, you can see if I remove this little lid for this compartment here and pull back this piece here, that will give us access to the wires here on the drivers side. We can access 4 of the 5 wires right over here. We are going to need to run a lead over to the passengers side tail light assembly to make our connection there. We need to go ahead and figure out which wire goes with which function we are looking for. It appears to be the green wire with the yellow stripe is the left-turn signal. Next, I am going to test for the running-light function, and that wire appears to be the green one with the white stripe. Next, we are going to go ahead and test for the brakes. OK, and that appears to be just the solid green wire.
