Installation of a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2012 Honda Civic

Today on our 2012 Honda Civic, we'll be installing the Tow Ready T1 Connector, part number 118420. First, we'll need to open up the rear cargo access then we'll remove the spare tire cover. There is one plastic fastener that will need to be removed before we can take it out of the vehicle. We'll simply set this aside for reinstallation later. Next, we'll remove the rear threshold. Again, we'll set this aside for the installation later.

Now we'll need to remove the carpeting behind both taillight assemblies. On each side, there are three plastic fasteners that'll need to be removed. Simply take a flat bladed screw driver and pry up on the center of the push pin and then remove it. Now with the carpeting out of the way, we can go ahead and start making connections with our new T1 connector. First, take the yellow wire connector, plug in line with the driver's side manufacturer's wiring.

Simply press in the locking tab and pull it out of the taillight assembly. Then we can plug our yellow connector in line with the manufacturer's. Next, we'll repeat the same process with the red and brown wire connector. Now here on the driver's side, we can take the white wire with pre-formed ring terminal, which is our ground wire, and attach it here to the manufacturer's ground stud. We'll simply remove the stud, install the ring terminal and then reattach the grand stud.

Now I can take our new four pole connector, put it down into the spare tire well where it'll be stored next to the spare tire. Next, we'll take the green wire and connector following the manufacturers wiring and route it over to the passenger's side and make the connection with the passenger side taillight circuit. For the passenger's side, those connector is on the top right when looking at the back of the vehicle. Now, taking several zip ties, we'll secure our green wire as we go back over to the driver's side. Once we complete that, I'll take one more zip tie and secure the four pole connector to the manufacturer's wiring.

With that completed we can go ahead and reinstall all of our interior trim panels. Now with everything reinstalled, we can go ahead and show you how to use your new four pole connector. We'll simply pick up on the spare tire cover, take our four pole connector, route it out of the trunk through the cargo door and down to the hitcher accessory. Be mindful to stay away from the latch of the hitch as pinching the wire and the latch can harm it. However, the weather stripping is thick enough that it won't harm the wire. And this will complete our installation of our Tow Ready T1 Connector, part number 118420 on our 2012 Honda Civic.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2009 Honda Civic

Today on this 2009 Honda Civic we are going to install part number 118420 from Tow Ready, this is their T-One wiring harness. The attachment points for our wiring harness are going to be right behind the tail lights so we are going to have to get inside to remove the carpeting and interior side panels as well as the threshold. With the floor panel out of the way we will work on the threshold and there is a fastener in the back here and you can just pop it out with your hands. You should be able to lift straight up and it should unpop. There are three fasteners and we will remove that so we can have access behind the tail light. We are done with the driver side and now we will go over to the passenger side and repeat the same process. 00:39

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation- 2008 Honda Civic

Today on this 2008 Honda Civic we are going to install part number 118420 from Tow Ready. This is our T-One wiring harness. First, we are going to get inside the trunk area. We will show you the layout of the T-One connector. The yellow wire goes to the driver side, so does the red and brown wire. The green wire will go all the way to the passenger side. :20

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2002 Honda Civic

Today on this 2002 Honda Civic we are going to be installing wiring harness 119176KIT. The first thing we have to do is clean out the trunk so we can access our tail lights but we are going to do that by removing the bottom carpet and then we are going to fold back the side carpet here to access our tail lights. We are going to take out these plastic screw rivets here and that should be the only one we need to remove on the driver side. Just pull back the trunk liner. You can see we have access to our tail lights on the driver side. Now with this wiring harness there is no T-Connector so we are going to have to splice into the existing wire for our harness to work. First we are going to run in ground using the existing wire and the self taping screw. We are just going to drill it into the sheet metal so we have a solid ground to work off of when we are testing our wires. 00:55

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2009 Honda Civic

Today on this 2009 Honda Civic we will be installing wiring harness part number 118420. Our harness here consists of three different ports. We have got two ports that are going to hook in over on the driver side, that will be the port with the brown and red wires and the port with the yellow and white wire. Also on our harness here, we are going to connect on the driver side, the white wire there with ring terminal on it. That is our ground wire. The third port with the longer green lead we are going to feed over to the passenger side tail light and we will connect them to give us our right turn. The connection points for our wiring harness are located directly behind the tail light assemblies here on the interior. To gain access to those connectors, we need to go ahead and remove some interior pieces. We need to remove the center threshold piece here and also pull back the interior fabric here on both sides and to pull back the interior fabric here we have got three flathead screws per side.
