Today on this 2011 Volkswagen Touareg, were going to install part number 56201 from Curt. Well be also using part number 118151 from Tow Ready, we will use that for our power wire to go to our power supply up in the front of the vehicle. Now were starting off the install with the vehicle partially disassembled already, we just got done installing a hitch and its a good time to do this wiring while the vehicle is partly disassembled. This is our module right here and we will do most our connection points on the drivers side. Go ahead and remove the bumper cover, to make it easier to see whats going on. We will attach our module here and we will extend these 2 wires to go up behind a tail light, we will make our connections behind the tail light and to the wire harness. The yellow wire here is going to be ran up to the drivers side tail light.
Our white wire is going to be ran to our ground which can be anywhere on the body. And our green wire, we ran across the other side and ran up to the passenger side tail light. We will start off by attaching adhesive to the back of our module and then attach it to our hitch. Now our yellow wire, we are going to grab another piece of matching yellow and extend it so it can reach our wires behind the tail light. We will just guide the wire up to the tail light and we will go ahead and strip back the sheath here and we will find out which wire is our turn signal.
See it blinks bright and then it goes dim. The dim part tells us that is the running light circuit part, and the bright part is the actual turn signal. That is why its combined on the wire harness as well. The yellow wire will do the running light and turn signal. So the wire we are going to connect it to will be the grey wire with the white stripe.
We will double check our connection, snap it together and go ahead and cut off the excess. At this point right here were going to go ahead and attach our ground. We are going to take our green wire, slip it behind our foam insert and go all the way across. It looks like the wire we are going to hook up on our passenger side will be black with a red stripe. We are going to take the 4-pole wire and route it to our safety chain loop and then we will go ahead and attach it to the hitch and we will take up any slack that we want. Alright now we can go ahead and deal with our black wire with the yellow butt connector. This will run through our power supply up front underneath the hood.
Alright, now I want to install the wire from the Tow Ready kit onto our yellow butt connector, we will go ahead and run it to the front of the vehicle. Make sure you run it so it does not get hot from the exhaust or anything moving like the suspension components. For our power supply we are going to attach right here, this is the part where you can actually jump start the vehicle. We are going to use one of these studs here to attach our fuse holder to. Ok we are going to go ahead and cut our wire to length and we will zip tie it to keep it secure. Then well add our fuse holder, one in the rear black wire, well add our butt connector and next take our fuse holder, cut it half, we will attach that to the butt connector and on the other side we will attach a ring terminal. Go ahead and release the fastener and then install a wire terminal right here. And at this point you want to go ahead and test your 4-pole harness with a light tester and make sure its working properly. Then go ahead and try it with a trailer. With our wiring complete, we can go ahead and reinstall the bumper fascia and tail lights. Ok and with that, that will finish it for our install of part number 56201 from Curt and part number 118151 from Tow Ready.
