Installation of a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2011 Ford Explorer

Today we are working on the 2011 Ford Explorer. We are going to install the tow ready T-One connector part number 118540. First step is to locate the manufacturers connection point on the passenger side of both of the exhausts inside the fender well. Then were going to press the locking tab and disconnect the two connection points. Now we can take our tow ready connector which will have identical plugs on either end matching the manufacturers. And we will plug it in line with the manufactures wiring.

I will go ahead and roll our wiring over to the center of the hitch. Remember when you are rolling your wiring you want it to stay as far away from the exhaust as possible as excessive heat can cause damage to the wiring. Now that I have got my wiring in place, I am going to go back over to my connection point. Because of the location here it is going to incur a lot of road dirt, dust and debris. So I am going to take some black tape and tape off my connection point just to try and keep off some of that dirt. With my connection point taped up, I am going to go ahead and take some black zip ties and secure my wiring.

After I have secured my wiring Im going to go ahead and go back with a pair of side cutters and just clip off the extra from the zip ties. And that will complete the install of our tow ready T-One connector, part number 118540 on the 2011 Ford Explorer.
