Installation of a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2011 Ford Escape

Today on this 2011 Ford Escape were going to install part #: 56067 from Curt. First thing we need to do is open up the back hatch and remove the two taillight assemblies. And to remove the harness were going to push down this tab right here, helps a little bit to push in first and then push the button, it comes right apart. Do the same thing for the lower socket here. Okay, thats it for the driver side, well do one more time on the passenger side. Well take our 4 pole wire harness, well drop it down behind the bumper and out the bottom.

Were going to do the same thing with the T connector with the green wire. Well take the T connector with the yellow wire and plug it into the factory harness and this other half will get plugged back to the taillight once reinstalled. Well just leave that alone for now. Were going to take our ring terminal with our white and red wire and run a ground to the sheet metal right here. Well take a black wire, were going to run that down to the bottom as well.

Eventually this black wire will get run to the battery. The other end of the black wire will be connected to this black wire with the butt connector. Alright, now well go ahead and clean up the spot to mount our module, well use adhesive to help keep it in place. Take one half of the adhesive put it into the module, towards the other half and attach it. Tuck our wires down and then we can go ahead and reinstall our taillight.

Now, underneath the vehicle well take our wire with the 4 pole in, well run them behind the braces or the bumper comer and out to the center of our hitch. Leave that alone for now and we take our T connector with the green wire and well run that all the way across to the other side and up to the taillight. Okay, well take up our slack of the green wire and well zip tie it to the factory harness. Now well go ahead and reinstall our taillight. Next well take our 4 pole harness and take up the slack.

And next well go ahead and take our black wire and were going to run that up to the front of the vehicle and well stay away from anything thats moving like the suspension components or anything hot like the exhaust. And when we go to the engine compartment we make sure we stay away fr om anything moving like the steering components up there. Run our wires as close to the firewall as possible and then well zip tie it to the factory wire harness here and well rout it over to the positive side of the battery. Now we can go ahead and add our ring terminal, well cut it in half and add a butt connector to one side, a ring terminal to the other. Okay, well take our fuse and add it to our fuse holder and were good to go. We can go ahead and zip tie our fuse holder. That will finish it for out install, now Ill go ahead and test our wiring with this light tester and then well go ahead and try it on a trailer. And that will finish it for our install of part #: 56067 from Curt.

Starting here on the drivers side well go ahead and remove the two fasteners and then pop the taillight out of position. Note: To pop the taillight out of position were going to be using a small plastic pry bar, but you can also use a flat bladed screwdriver just be careful not to chip the paint. Now, once youve popped the taillight out, be careful not to break the alignment tabs underneath.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2010 Ford Escape

Today on this 2010 Ford Escape we will be installing wiring harness part number 118551. We are going to start off at the rear of the vehicle and the first thing we are going to do is locate the ports that we are going to be plugging our wiring harness into. These ports are located directly behind the tail light assembly on both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle. The first thing we need to do is remove each one of the tail lights. To do that as you can see I have already opened the cargo door that exposes the two inboard side screws that are holding each one of the tail lights on. With the two screws removed we can take and gently rock the tail light assembly back and forth because there are two push pin type connectors still inside there holding the tail light into place. 00:45
