Installation of a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2009 Honda Odyssey

Today on our 2009 Honda Odyssey, well be installing the Tow Ready T-1 connector part number 118438. To begin our installation, well first remove the jack storage door. Next, were going to remove the rear threshold. To remove it, well first remove the two tie-down hooks. Next, well go ahead and get our hand underneath the bottom of the threshold and pop the plastic passenger strip from the sheet metal. Then we can take the flat-bladed screwdriver or in this case a trim panel tool and get up underneath the threshold and pop it free.

Once we have it free, well go ahead and set it aside for reinstallation later. Next, well need to go ahead and loosen and pull back the passenger side quarter panel. Well first remove the tie-down point here at the top and then get in behind the panel with our trim tool and pop it free. Now weve got to pull back and we can see the manufacturers junction block. Well be plugging our Tow Ready connector in to the open port on the top right side of the junction panel.

With our gray connector plugged in to the junction panel, we now need to take the white wire with the pre-attached ring thermal which is our ground wire and then ground it to the vehicle. The manufacturer has a ground stud located just next to the passenger side quarter panel. We can go ahead and remove the ground stud and install the ground wire. Now with that attached and tighten back down, well go ahead and peel back the double side adhesive of the black converted box and attach it to the clean flat surface just under the junction block that we attached to earlier. Now we can go ahead and take our four poled connector and start routing it over to the driver side securing it with the black zip ties as we go.

Now with our wire secured, well go ahead and route it in behind the quarter panel on the driver side to the jack storage area where itll be kept when its not in use. Now with our wire run and secured, well go ahead and take a pair of side cutters and cut off the excess from our zip ties. Quick tip, to make it easier to install the rear threshold and to make sure all the plastic fasteners are removed from the body of the vehicle and reattached to the threshold first. Now, we can go ahead and reinstall the interior panels. With that done, well now go up into the cabin of the vehicle on the passenger side and remove the fuse panel door.

In position number five as indicated on the fuse panel door, well install the fuse provided with our Tow Ready kit. Now we can go ahead and reinstall the fuse panel door. Lets go ahead and show you how to use your new four-pole connector. Well simply take it out of the jack storage compartment, route to the center of the vehicle and down to the hitch or accessory. Be careful and stay away from the latch as pinching off in the latch can harm the wire. However the leather stripping is thick enough that it wont harm it and we can go ahead and close the cargo door on it. Then once were completed using our new four-pole connector, well simply roll it up, store here with the jack storage compartment and reinstall the jack storage door. And thatll do it for the install of our Tow Ready T-1 Connector part number 118438 on our 2009 Honda Odyssey. .
