Installation of a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Today on this 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe, we're going to install part number 118415 from Tow Ready. Now, to get access to the wiring connectors, we have to remove some flooring panels and loosen the side panels so we can get access to the wiring behind the tail light. This lid and the tray below it get removed first, the two fasteners here, here, and one on the jack. Pop, this catches loose. Alright, next, we'll go ahead and remove the threshold. Alright, we'll unscrew this fastener here and there's one up here, will do too.

This will help loosen up the side panel. This panel for a seat belt will loosen up to. And this is our wire hornets we're going to plug into so we'll disconnect one half. There's a tab on the other side and you pull the part. It's the tab you got to push down.

Now, we'll take our T-harness. I'm going to split the ground wire back some so we can find an easier place to ground it and we'll take this wire and sneak it behind our panel. Make sure your wire stay away from the fasteners. Plug them back into the factory ends. Take our ground wire.

We'll attach it to this sheet metal right here. That will be underneath the threshold. Now, we'll take our T with the red wire. We're going to run that all the way across and up to the other side to the other tail light. We'll go ahead and repeat the same process for installing the T-connector on the passenger's side.

We'll check to make sure the wires are tucked in between the sheet metal and the interior panel. We'll take our converter box and just tuck it right back here then we'll go ahead and tuck our wire safe and out of the way, and then re-install old interior panels. Before we install the tray, we're going to route our wires off to the side and around the corner, then take our harness and put it in here. Then we can re-install the tray. Therefore, our wire is loose enough, it won't move around, then re-install our fasteners at the bottom. Now, our wire harness will stay inside here, but we're not using it. When we do need to use it, just open it up, pull it out, run it up to your hitch and just make sure the wire harness stays away from the center latch. And with that, that will finish it for install of part number 118415 from Tow Ready.
