Installation of a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2008 Hyundai Entourage

Today on our 2008 Hyundai Entourage, well be installing the Tow-Ready T1 connector part number 118410.First well need to access the rear cargo area. Then were going to remove the taillight assembly. Weve got three fasteners on each side to remove. As you remove your taillight assembly, be careful not to break the alignment tabs. Next well go ahead and press on the lock of the connector for the rear taillights. Disconnecting these connectors will allow us to plug our new Tow-Ready harness in line with the manufacturers.

Next, well take the white wire with the pre-form ring terminal attached and ground it here to the body. Well use a self-tapping screw provided with our install kit. Next, well go ahead and take the power wire coming from our converter box and attach it to the black power wire that well be using to route to the vehicles battery. To do this, well strip back both ends and use the yellow but connector provided with our install kit. Now we have our connection made, a quick tech tip is to go ahead and take some black electrical tape and wrap up the connection.

This will help to keep out dirt, dust and debris. Now well go ahead and take the power wire converter box, our 4-pole connector and the red and green wire and connector and route them down between the bumper cover and the body sheet metal. Now we have them underneath the vehicle, Im going to go ahead and pull back on the yellow and brown wire to bring the converter box back up behind the taillight assembly. Well peel back the double side adhesive and go ahead and adhere it just behind the taillight assembly behind the bumper cover. Now with that complete, we need to go ahead and start routing the red and green wire over to the passenger side and our 4-pole connector to the center of the hitch. To do this, were going to go ahead and remove the lower body trim panel; were going to need to remove multiple fasteners so that I can secure the wires up behind the bumper.

Now with our lower trim panel removed, well go ahead and secure the wires to the trim panel brackets then well secure the 4-pole to the hitch.Quick tech tip: An important thing to keep in mind is to avoid excessive heat such as the exhaust or moving components such as steering and suspension when routing your electrical wires. Now well complete the routing by sending the red and green wire over to the passenger side taillight assembly. To remove the taillight assembly on the passenger side, repeat the identical steps weve already done on the driver side. Now, using a pull wire or in this case a piece of air tubing, well utilize it to fish the wire from underneath the vehicle up behind the taillight assembly. Now that Ive got my wire behind the taillight assembly, we need to go ahead and secure the excess wire using a couple of the black zip ties provided with our install kit I can secure it here to the manufacturers wiring. Next, well go ahead and make the connection with the manufacturers wire to our Tow-Ready connector and our Tow-Ready connector to our taillight assembly. With that completed, we can go ahead and reinstall the taillight assembly.

Now well go ahead and route our power wire to the battery in the engine compartment. Now with our wire into the engine compartment, we can go ahead and pull it up and secure it with a black zip tie. Next, well go ahead and route around the air box to the positive battery terminal. I can cut off any excess wire and add my fuse holder. To add the fuse holder, again, well cut the fuse h older in half, add our butt connector to one end. Now well go ahead and make the connection from the fuse holder to our power wire. One end will get our ring terminal for the battery. Again, well go ahead and wrap up the connection with some black electrical tape. Now we can complete routing the wire and secure it here to the positive battery terminal. Now well go ahead and add our fuse to the fuse holder. With that completed, well go ahead and put the cap on the fuse holder and secure the fuse holder here with a black zip tie. With that done, this will complete the install of our Tow-Ready T1 connector part number 118410 on our 2008 Hyundai Entourage.
