Today on our 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan well be installing the Curt T Connector Wiring Kit part number C56019. Our first step will be to open the rear cargo door then well remove the drivers side tail light housing by removing the two fasteners and gently prying it away from the vehicle. As you pry the housing away from the vehicle be careful not to break the alignment tabs that youll be able to see once we have the taillight assembly removed from the vehicle. Next, well go ahead and remove the black connector from the rear taillight socket. First well unlock the red locking tab then press on the connector lock and remove it from the taillight socket. Next, we can take our yellow and brown wire from our new T connector and plug it in line with the manufacturers wiring.
Now with the drivers side plugged in line with the manufacturers wiring well go ahead and take the converter box and adhere it to the vehicle. To do this well take the two-way adhesive provided with the install kit, peel back one side and adhere it to the converter box. Then well take the converter box, were going to mount it to an area of clean flat sheet metal. Next we can take the red and white wire with a preformed ring terminal which is our ground wire and attach it to the body of the vehicle using a self tapping screw provided with our install kit. Now the black wire coming from our converter box is going to be for our power wire.
We can take one of the yellow butt connectors provided with our install kit and crimp it to the power wire to the converter box. Then well go ahead and strip back the long length of black power wire provided with our install kit and connect it to the other side of the butt connector. Quick tech tip, I like to go ahead and take some black electrical tape and wrap up this connection to keep out any dirt, dust and debris. Now we can go ahead and take the green wire connector, our new 4-pole connector and the black power wire and feed them down underneath the taillight assembly between the plastic bumper cover and the sheet metal of the vehicle. And then well go ahead and reinstall the taillight assembly.
Next well go ahead and remove the passengers side taillight assembly and just let it sit here aside so that we have access to routing our green wire connector up behind the passengers side taillight assembly. Now lets go ahead and get underneath the vehicle and well route the 4-pole to the center hitch and the green wire over to the passengers side making the same connections that we just did on the drivers side. Now that we have our green wire connector routed over to the passengers side, Im going to go ahead and attach a pull wire. In this case Ill be using a piece of air tube. This will assist you in pulling the wire up behind the passengers side of the taillight assembly.
Well just attach it to the green wire connector with some black electrical tape. Now that weve got the wire up behind the passengers side taillight assembly we can go ahead and plug in line with the manufacturers wiring just as we did on the drivers side and then well go ahead and reinstall the passengers side taillight assembly. Well be using the black zip ties provided with our install kit to secure our wiring. Then well take our black power wire that we made connection to our converter box and route it to the engine compartment where ultimately well be making connection with the battery of the vehicle. Be careful when routing your wires as excessive heat such as the exhaust or moving components such as steering or suspension can damage the wire. Now that weve got our wire routed into the engine compartment we can go ahead and pull it up and again, use a black zip tie to secure our wire. As you can see, the power wire is a little longer than what were going to need so well go ahead and cut off the excess at this time. Next, well go ahead and take the fuse holder provider install kit and were going to cut it in half, strip back both ends and then add our ring terminal and butt connector. With our butt connector connected we can go ahead and strip back the power wire that we just ran up the compartment and make the connection with our butt connector. Now with both sides crimped down just as I did earlier Im going to go ahead and wrap up this connection point with some black electrical tape. Now you can see well go ahead and take our ring terminal and make a connection here with the positive battery posts. Well go ahead and remove the nut from the positive battery terminal stud and then reinstall it with our ring terminal. With that done Ill go ahead and take another zip tie and secure my fuse holder here to the manufacturers wiring. Now we can install the 10 amp fuse provided with our installation kit. With that installed well go ahead and put the cap on our fuse holder. This will complete the installation of the Curt T Connector 4-Pole Wiring Kit part number C56019 on our 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. .
