Today we are working on a 2004 Toyota Highlander. Were going to install a Tow Ready T-One connector part number 118248. Our first step is to access the rear cargo area of the vehicle. Were going to open up the storage compartment with the spare tire tool tray, and the drivers side cargo tray. We have a push pin plastic fastener on each side that will have to be removed, and go ahead and set it out of our way. Now I am going to go ahead and remove the rear threshold so I can get the drivers side cargo tray out.
A couple of more plastic fasteners, and then we will gently pry underneath the threshold so that the fasteners will come up off of the sheet metal. Inside of the rear cargo tray we have two plastic fasteners that also have to be removed. These are plastic nuts; with the cargo tray out of the way you can see the manufacturers tow connection here. This will match up identically with our new Tow Ready T-One connector. Lets go ahead and install it now.
The stud with all the white wires running to it is the manufacturers ground. We will remove this stud so that we can take our white wire with the ring terminal from our converter box, which is the ground for the converter box, and install it here. With my ground wire mounted, we need to go ahead and mount the converter box, what we are looking for is a place where it is clean and flat to mount the converter box. Well peal back the double sided adhesive, and I will firmly press it into place. Now with my converter box mounted, I can go ahead and reinstall the cargo tray, and route the new 4 pole connector out into the new spare tire tool compartment.
Now we have everything reinstalled in the rear we are going to come under the hood to the fuse panel. We will open up the fuse box; we need to install the 10 amp fuse that is supplied in our Tow Ready Kit. Simply install into the manufacturers location for the towing fuse compartment, reinstall the fuse compartment door, and that completes the install of our Tow Ready T-One Connector. Now lets go ahead and show you how to use it. Go ahead and open up the cargo door, lift up the storage compartment, take our 4 pole connector, route it out to the hitch or accessory, and then we are going to close the door on the wire.
The weather seal is thick enough that it will not harm the wire, but I do recommend you stay away from the latch as pinching it off in the latch will damage the wire. And there you have it for our Tow Ready T-One Connector part number 118248 on a 2004 Toyota Highlander.
