Today on this 2000 Saturn L Series, we're going to install the Tow Ready T1 Connector part number 119175. First, we'll need to access the trunk of the vehicle. We've already gone ahead and remove the spare tire cover and spare tire. Next, we're going to remove the rear threshold. There are six fasteners that will need to be removed. Let's go ahead and remove those six fasteners in the threshold and we'll set it aside.
In some applications, these fasteners are made to be removed with a special tool. However, I found that a large flat bladed screw driver will work just as well. With the fasteners removed, I'm going to take my trim tool and get underneath the plastic to release its clips from the sheet metal. If you dont have a trim tool, a large flat bladed screwdriver will work as well also. Now with our threshold out of the way, we can go ahead and pull back the carpeting and see, we now have access to the rear tail lights.
What we're going to do is take our test light and a piece of wire. Let me take my piece of wire and stick it in behind the manufacturer's connection point. Now with my test light, I can go ahead and test my wire. Alright, now we've identified our running lights, our brake lights, and I can turn the signal here on the drivers side. We've got a brown wire coming out of this connector.
It's our running light. The light blue wire is our brake light and the dark blue wire is our turn signal. To make it a little easier to make my connection, I'm going to go ahead and cut the electrical tape here so we can spread the wires. Be careful when cutting the electrical tape, not to cut into the wires. Now, with easy access to the wires, we can go ahead and take our quick connectors and attach our converter box.
Here, the wires will come out of our converter box. The white with the ring terminal on it is our ground. Our brown is our running light. The red is our brake light and the yellow is our blinker for the drivers side. We'll go ahead and hook up my running lights first. I'll take my quick connector and I'll just flip it over the manufacturer's wire and we'll take the brown wire from our converter box and slide it into the quick connector with the manufacturer's wire. Then we can go ahead and crimp it down and snap it close. Alright, we'll go ahead and repeat the same process for our blinker and brake light. Now here on the driver's side, we've got one more connection to make. That will be our ground wire. There's a manufacturer stock here on the sheet metal. We'll just go ahead and use that. So we'll remove the fastener, install our ring terminal, and then re-install the fastener. With our ground wire installed, we can now go ahead and mount the converter box. When mounting your box, you want to pick a smooth clean surface to attach it to. We can peel back the cover off with two-way adhesive and just below the tail light here is a perfect location. Ok, with my box mounted, I'm now going to go ahead and take some electrical tape and wrap my wires back up. We'll now take our green wire coming out of the converter box. We'll route it along the manufacturer's wiring behind the threshold. It will go over to the passengers side where we can pull the carpeting back and attach it to the turn signal on the passenger's side. Using some black zip ties, Ill just secure the green wire to the manufacturer's. Now, over here on the passengers side, we need to repeat the same process and identify the right turn signal. Also on the passengers side, from the manufacturer's, the dark blue wire is the indicator for the right turn signal. We'll go ahead and use our quick connector and attach our green wire to the dark blue wire on the passengers side. And to clean up our install, we'll take a pair of side cutters. Clip off the excess from our zip ties. With that completed, we can go ahead and re-install everything and show you how to use your new 4-pole connector. To use our new 4-pole connector, we'll simply open the trunk, take the 4-pole connector out from where it's stored in the trunk and run it out to our hitch or accessory. We can close the trunk on the wire as the leather stripping is thick enough that it won't harm it. However, do stay away from the latch as pinching it off in the latch can harm the wire. Then once we're finished using our wire, we'll simply take it, roll it up, and store it inside the car. And there you have it for the install of our Tow Ready T1 Connector, part number 119175, on our 2000 Saturn.
