Installation of a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro

Today on our 1995 Chevrolet Camaro well be installing trailer harness part number 18252. And for opening the rear deck lid, well remove the driver side inside trim panel. With the trim panel removed, we can peel the carpeting away at the back of the trunk which will expose our wiring. Now on this particular vehicle, they make it really nice. Youll notice here that the factory wiring harness is the same colors as trailer 4-pole wiring. Well also need to locate a ground for our 4-pole harness which, in the Camaro, we can use one of the existing ground points here directly underneath the latch.

Well just peel the carpet up around the latch and expose our hex bolt with its existing ground. This will be where well connect the white wire from our 4-pole harness. We can use the test light supplied with the harness kit to test our factory wiring after determining that the brown wire on the factory harness is the taillights, the yellow wire on the factory harness is the left turn and the dark green wire on the factory harness is the right turn, we can go ahead and make our connections. The yellow wire and the green wire on the factory harness also act as brake light signals. To make our connection, well use a quick locks supplied with the 4-pole harness kit.

Well put the quick lock over the factory harness wire and bring the brown wire or our running lights from our 4-pole harness into the quick lock. We can then use a pair of pliers to crimp down on the quick connect and make our connection. We can simply close the plastic door on the quick lock and repeat the same process for the remaining two wires on our 4-pole. Now we can peel our white wire from our 4-pole harness back to bring it over to our ground location. Well then simply tuck the wires back behind the carpeting so they come out in a suitable location.

I also like to recommend that we tape up the quick connects just to make sure they dont come undone accidentally. After making the connections here on our factory harness, well go ahead and reinstall the connector back into its location. For our ground wire, well simply peel back the installation exposing the wiring itself and using an islet supplied with the install kit, well crimp it to our ground. We can then move down to our grounding location where well undo the bolt put our islet in and reattach the bolt. Now you wanna make sure that all the ground wires get reattached as they as all do serve a purpose.

And with all our connections made, well the carpeting back into position and reinstall our side cover. Now our 4-pole is ready to use. When using it, well simply pull it out of the trunk and bring it down to make our connection to our trailer. We can then just close the door to our wiring harness as the molding for the rear door is thick enough that it wont damage the wiring itself. And there you have it for the trailer wiring harness kit part 18252 on our 1995 Chevrolet Camaro.
