Today on our 2012 Scion XB, well be installing the Curt Hitch, part number 12490. This is what our hitch will look like once Its installed. Now, well go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 3 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 12-1/4 inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a drawbar, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier.
Now, lets go ahead with the installation. First, well need to remove the manufacturers tow hook. To do this, well remove the two fasteners securing it to the frame. This will now give us access to al the three fasteners here on the drivers side which will be weld nuts into the frame. Before we attempt to install our hitch, well go ahead and clean out the weld nuts using a little spray lubricant and a 1/2-inch nylon tube brush, part number 814092.
Well go ahead and use one of our new bolts to thread it in to the weld nut to make sure they go nice and smoothly. Now, well go ahead and repeat the same process on the passengers side. Now, were ready to install the hitch. Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands that will help you hold the hitch in place while you install your fasteners. Well be using the new 12-mm bolts along with the conical toothed washer with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch.
Now, after we have our hardware installed finger tight, well go ahead and tighten them down and then torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. And this will complete the install of our Curt Hitch, part number 12490, on our 2012 Scion XB.
