Today on our 2012 Cadillac SRX we're going to install Hidden Hitch, part number 87573. This is what our hitch will look like once it's installed. We'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you with selecting accessories. From the center of the hitch pin hole to outer most edge of the bumper is 3 inches, from the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 19 inches. This will assist you with selecting accessories such as a draw bar, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier. Now let's go ahead with the installation.
Our first step is to remove the rear fascia door. There are two fasteners securing it in position. With the fascia door removed, we'll now have access to the two weld nuts in the bumper Next we need to remove the spacer blocks, one on each side and secure the rear fascia. There'll be two fasteners and one nut that will need to be removed in order to remove one of the spacers. We'll pry the center out of the pushpin fastener and then remove it.
Alright, with the passenger's side removed we'll go ahead and repeat the same process on the driver's side. Next, we'll go ahead and point out our attachment points for the inside of each frame rail. We'll have two on the driver's side and two on the passenger's side. These are weld nuts that we'll be using our new 12-mm bolts to secure our hitch in place. We'll be using the new 12-mm bolts along with the 1/2 inch conical tooth washer.
Now that we've put our hitch in place we'll be working behind the fascia and securing it to the weld nut. Keep in mind on the driver's side, you need to be careful not to harm or damage the wiring harness. Now is a good time to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch in place while you install your fasteners. Quick tech tip, we're working on a brand new vehicle so the weld nuts are clean. However, in some cases you'll need to clean out the weld nuts before you can install your hardware.
I recommend using some spray lubricant and a half inch Nylon Tube Brush, part number 814092 to thoroughly clean those weld nuts out before you attempt to install your new hardware. We'll install each of our fasteners finger tight until we get them all in place. Now with all our fasteners installed we'll go ahead and tighten them down. Now with all our fasteners tightened down we'll go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with our hitch installed and torqued to specifications we'll go ahead and reinstall the plastic support pieces for the rear fascia. The fascia door cover is now taken up by the hitch so we will not be reinstalling it. However, we'll go ahead and reinstall the fastening screws should the customer ever choose to remove the hitch. They can reinstall the fascia door. And that will do it for our install of the Hidden Hitch, part number 87573 on our 2012 Cadillac SRX.
