Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2011 Jeep Patriot

Today on our 2011 Jeep Patriot, were gonna be installing the Hidden Hitch part 87606. This is what our hitch will look like once its installed; now well go ahead and give you a couple of measurements. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 6 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 14 inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a draw bar, a bike rack or a cargo carrier. Now lets go ahead with the installation.

Before we can install our new hitch, were gonna need to cut a notch in the rear fascia for the receiver tube. To do this, well follow the instructions using the measurements provided. Our first measurement is to find the center point between the two fascia tabs. We can do this in two ways. The measurement provided is 6 5/8 inches from the center of the fascia tab.

The other way we could measure it is by going and taking the distance between the two fascia tabs and dividing it in half. As you can see, theyre both within 1/8-inch of each other. Next, working off our center point, were gonna mark the outside edges at a total of 3 inches. Next, we need to mark the top edge which is gonna be two inches from the bottom. Now using a rotary zip tool, were gonna go ahead and cutout the fascia to allow for the receiver tube.

Next, before we put our hitch in place, were gonna go ahead and take our 14 mm bolt, were gonna run it through the frame from outside to inside. Although itll be just flush with the inside so that when we put our hitch in place, well push it the rest of the way through. Now with our bolts in position, were gonna go ahead and put our hitch in place and push the bolts through the hitch. Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch in place while you install your fasteners. Each process we do here on the passenger side, were gonna repeat it on the driver side identically.

For our forward attachments, well now add the 5/8s conical tooth washer with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch and then our 5/8s nut. For our rear attachments, well be using the 5/8s lock washer along with our 5/8s nut. Each process we do here on one side, were gonna repeat it identically on the opposite side. Now with all our fasteners in place, we can go ahead and tighten them down. With all fasteners tightened down, we can now go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Alright, and there you have it. With all our fasteners torqued to specifications, thatll complete the installation of our Hidden Hitch part number 87606 on 2011 Jeep Patriot. .
