Honda Odyssey Trailer Hitch

Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2011 Honda Odyssey

Today in our 2011 Honda Odyssey, well be installing a draw type hitch, part number 36417. This is what our hitch well look like once its installed. Next, well go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outer most edge of the bumper is 5-1/4 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 11-3/4 inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a drawbar, a bike rack or a cargo carrier.

Now lets go ahead with the installation. To begin our install well first need to remove the underbody trim panel on the drivers side. Well go ahead and set this aside as it will not be reinstalled. To do this well remove the multiple fasteners that hold it in place. Now with that removed it exposes the frame here on the drivers sides and we can go ahead and point out the attachment points.

Well only be using the two rear weld nuts as our forward and rear attachment point and before we attempt to install the hitch well going to want to clean out the weld buts. Well use a little spray lubricant and a half-inch nylon tube brush, part number 814092, to thoroughly clean out the threads of the weld nut because over time itll build up with dust, dirt and debris. Now we are ready to go area and install the hitch. First, well feed the passenger side up over the exhaust allowing it to hang exhaust while we bring the drivers side up into position. Well go ahead and install two bolts into the weld nuts on the drivers side.

Next, well go ahead and repeat the same process on the passengers side. Now with all four attachment points in place we can go ahead and tighten them down. Next, well go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions and that will complete the install of our draw type hitch part number 36417 on our 2011 Honda Odyssey.
