Subaru Impreza Trailer Hitch

Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2010 Subaru Impreza

Today on this 2010 Subaru Impreza, were going to install part number 60265 from Hidden Hitch. Well, this is what the hitch looks like when installed on a car. Next, well go ahead and give you some measurements thatll help you out in selecting some accessories such as a cargo carrier or a bicycle rack. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the edge of the bumper is going to be 3 inches and from the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be 10-1/2 inches. Now, well go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. First thing we need to do is go ahead and lower the exhaust.

Now, also add a strap to help control our exhaust when we lower it. Were going to remove four hangers around the muffler and then one hanger right by the rear differential. Well spray down the hangers with some lubricant and then well go ahead and remove them from the hangers. Now, we need to remove the river plugs that are in the frame and these will be our attachment points. This will be identical on both sides of the car.

And well have to modify these holes as well. Well have to draw a 3/8-inch hole on each side of this one so we can get our hardware installed. You also need to drill this hole out to half an inch. You need to test it to make sure that we can get our hardware inside. Now, we can go ahead and install our hardware.

Well take our bolt leader that comes with the kit. Well install it through the rearmost whole and run it out our access hole here, take our block, slide it into the frame, thread in our bolt. Well push that into the frame and pull it out. Now, the hardware for this hole will be the same thing except well push everything inside then pull it back out. Now, the passengers side is done for now.

Now, well repeat the same process on the drivers side. Before we install our hitch into our hardware, I just want to point out that this block at the round hole will be installed between the frame and the hitch. To make things a little easier, well take this block to the hitch. This doesnt need to be super tight just enough so it can move around. This will be identical on both sides of the hitch. When we installed our hitch, well install a conical toothed washer with the teeth pointing up towards the hitch and then our nut on the bottom. And you want to have an extra set of hands to help you do this so you dont push up the hardware into the frame. With all our hardware installed we can go ahead and tighten down the bolts and then torque them down as specified in the instructions. Alright, now we can go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. Alright, and with that, thatll finish it for our install of part number 60265 from Hidden Hitch on our 2010 Subaru Impreza.
