Ford Flex Trailer Hitch

Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2009 Ford Flex

Today, on a 2009 Ford Flex, we are going to install part number 87571 from Hidden Hitch. Next well use some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From top of receiver opening down to the ground is going to be 12-3/4 inches and from the center of your hitch pin hole to the outside edge of your bumper is going to be 4 inches. Now I will go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. First step is to go ahead and lower exhaust and get it out of our way. To lower the exhaust, remove these bolts here, holding exhaust up that will also serve as our attachment point.

Then we will loosen up this rubber hanger here, towards the front of the vehicle. Before lowering the exhaust, we will attach a strap to help control it while we lower it out of our way. We will start by removing the 2 bolts first and then move on to the hanger. To make it easier to remove the hanger, we will spray it down with some lubricant first. On the passenger side, we will clean our attachment points here, first spraying them with lubricant and then run our knew bolt in and out until they are clean.

You can also use a brush to clean them out, using part number 814092. At this point, we can go ahead and install the hitch and I definitely want to have an extra set of hands to help hold it up there while you run it over your exhaust. Now, the hitch will go up to the frame and the exhaust bracket will go on top of the hitch. With all of the hardware loosely installed, we can go ahead and tighten all the bolts and then we will go ahead and torque them down as specified in the instructions. Our hitch is torqued down, the last thing we need to do is go ahead and reinstall the exhaust at the hanger going toward the front.

And with that, it will finish up our install of part number 87571 from Hidden Hitch on our 2009 Ford Flex.
