Today on our 2009 Ford Escape, well be installing Hidden Hitch part number 90108. This is what our hitch will look like once its installed. Next, well go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you at selecting accessories for your new hitch. Form the center of the hitch pinhole to the outer most edge of the bumper is at a 1/2 inch. Form the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 16-3/4 inches. This will assist you at selecting accessories such as a drawbar, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier.
Now, lets go ahead with the installation. First, to make the install easier weve gone ahead and removed the spare tire. This will give us more access up underneath the vehicle and at the frame attachment points. There are a total of 2 attachment points on each side here in the side of the frame. Well be installing hardware into the frame as attachment points.
Well be using the 1/2 inch carriage bolt and block and pulling them into position using the 1/2 bolt leader, all supplied with our install kit. First, well go ahead and take the bolt leader and feed it through the attachment point and out the end of the frame where theres a large enough access hole to feed our hardware into the frame. Then, well go ahead and slide on our block and thread on our carriage bolt. Feed them both into the frame and pull them into position using the bolt leader. Now, well go ahead and leave the bolt leader on the carriage bolt as well use it to assist us in getting the hitch into position without losing our hardware into the frame.
Now, well go ahead and repeat the same process on the passengers side. Now, with both rear attachment point carriage points in place its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch up while you feed the pull wire through the hitch and put the hitch up into position. Now, at the hitch into position we can go ahead and pull the carriage bolts through the hitch and remove the bolt leader. Now, well install the conical tooth washer with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch and the 1/2 inch nut. With both rear attachment points in place and hand tight well now go ahead and repeat the same process for the forward attachment points.
With all 4 attachment points in place we can now go ahead and tighten them down. With that completed we can go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. And this will complete the install of our Hidden Hitch part number 90108 on our 2009 Ford Escape.
