From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost part of the spare tire is 9 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 19-3/8 inches. Now lets go ahead with our install. Now, to begin our installation well need to drop our exhaust tail pipe down.
To do this well spray some lubricant on the rubber isolator and then remove it using a pry bar. This will allow us to move the tail pipe around in order to secure our fasteners. Here on the drivers side well need to remove the toll loop. Well go ahead and set the toll sloop aside as it will not be reinstalled. Well now go ahead and point out the mounting locations.
Well be using the two weld nuts here on the drivers side where the tow hook was as well as this square hole in the frame just forward. These are identical on the passengers side. Now, well go ahead and clean out the threads on our weld nuts. Well use a spray penetrant and a nylon tube brush part number A14092 to do this. Well also need to remove the wiring harness here for the trailer connector on the vehicle.
For now, well go ahead and remove the 2 clips holding the harness in place. Were now ready to raise our hitch into position. With our hitch in position well go ahead and install; the bolt and the conical tooth washer into the rear most fasteners holes here at the weld nuts. You want to make sure that when installing the conical tooth washer that the teeth of the washer are facing the hitch. With that hardware in were now ready to fish wire our third mounting point on either side.
Well use the fish wire to go up through the mounting location and out the side of the frame here at this access hole. We can then slide our spacer block on with our carriage bolt and draw them down back through the mounting location through the hitch. We can then use a conical tooth washer again ensuring that the teeth of the washer are facing the hitch and the nut, and well repeat this process on the passengers side. Now, that all our hardware is in place we can go ahead and tighten it down and torque it to specifications as indicated in the instructions. With all our hardware torqued to specification we can go ahead and reinstall our exhaust. And with our exhaust back up well move back over to the wiring harness that we removed earlier and using the holes pre-drilled in the frame well remount it to the frame of the vehicle. And that will complete the installation of Hidden Hitch part number 87412 on our 2008 FJ Cruiser.
